About the Role
~1 min readBaxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a Construction Engineer III in our Houston, TX office. The Engineer III will support the firm’s construction group on a variety of projects ranging from roadways and bridges to underground installation and treatment plant construction. Additionally, the candidate will be assisting with the firm’s design staff when required. The engineering position will also offer the opportunity to work directly with firm clients.
Responsibilities
~3 min read- →Conduct on-site observation of work, repairs, and tests as needed.
- →Coordinate construction activities with clients, inspectors, contractors and public agencies.
- →Endeavor to provide protection for owner against defects and deficiencies in the work.
- →Serve as liaison with contractor.
- →Prepare, edit, and format engineering construction reports, technical memoranda, and field documentation.
- →Coordinates with inspectors for on-site observation of work, repairs and test as needed.
- →Maintain project logs including RFIs, submittals, pay applications, change orders, and correspondence.
- →Review contractor submittals for completeness and accuracy.
- →Reads and interprets applicable plans, specifications, schematics, blueprints, and maps
- →Assists in providing general civil engineering, transportation, and municipal client service.
- →Effective communication, both oral and written, with contractors, residents, businesses, and public agency representative.
- →Assists Construction Manager in resolving construction conflicts and prepare cost-effective solutions.
- →Organize and maintain digital project files in accordance with company/owner standards.
- →Assist with assembling bid packages, project closeout documents, and record drawings.
- →Use Bluebeam to review, annotate, and compare plan sets and specifications.
- →Assist engineers in checking construction drawings for accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- →Help track revisions, addenda, and updated construction documents.
- →Visit construction sites periodically (Approximately 20%) to assist with:
- →Communicate field observations clearly to project engineers and stakeholders.
- →Ensure field visits comply with safety standards and PPE requirements.
- →Create spreadsheets, charts, and logs using Microsoft Excel.
- →Track project quantities, construction progress, and schedules.
- →Compile supporting data for monthly pay estimates and contractor invoices.
- →Coordinate with engineers, contractors, inspectors, and owner representatives regarding documentation needs.
- →Attends various meetings to provide status updates, prepares reports and meeting minutes
- →Identifies problem areas and recommends resolutions to Construction Manager
- →Serves as the Construction Engineer or Construction Manager’s liaison when coordinating construction activities with contractors and construction management team.
- →Assist with PowerPoint presentations for progress meetings or internal reporting.
- →Reports issues to the Construction Manager.
- →General civil engineering and client service.
- →Other responsibilities as assigned.
- →Professional Engineering License required
- →5+ years of proven progressive experience in construction engineering
- →Strong proficiency in Microsoft Suite:
- →Word (report writing, formatting, templates)
- →Excel (data entry, formulas, charts, tables)
- →PowerPoint (slides, visuals, meeting materials)
- →Proficiency in Bluebeam for PDF markup and plan set review.
- →Experience with Revit or other CAD/BIM software (viewing and basic navigation).
- →Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- →Ability to organize large volumes of technical information.
- →Detail-oriented and able to work independently.
- →Basic understanding of construction terminology and processes.
- →Ability to travel throughout the greater Houston area and contiguous counties. (own transportation).
- →Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills.
Requirements
