Responsibilities
~1 min read- Accountable for the financial management of projects for Industrial business unit, including gross profit, project % complete forecasting, WIP, and IFRS 15 revenue recognition and backlog.
- Accountable for the financial oversight of service order operations, including accurate job setup, billing, revenue recognition, cost allocation, and financial reporting, while establishing and maintaining effective internal controls through ongoing reviews of job costing, rate structures, and billing support.
- Provide day-to-day guidance to Project Accounting staff, helping resolve operational issues, prioritize competing deadlines, and maintain clear expectations and accountability.
- Provide financial oversight for joint venture and partnership projects, ensuring compliance with joint arrangement agreements, company policies, and applicable accounting standards, including IFRS reporting requirements.
- Oversee flow-through invoicing processes between operating entities, joint ventures, and clients, ensuring costs are appropriately supported, accurately billed, and reconciled through the full invoicing cycle.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and coordinate the resolution of outstanding invoices, payment discrepancies, disputed costs, remittance issues, and collection concerns.
- Coordinate project financial setup, including WBS structures, pay items, phase codes, cost items, budgets, and alignment between applicable financial and project-control systems.
- Audit project P&L reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company reporting policies and accounting standards.
- Review cost and billing reports to ensure proper management of cost codes, contract items, charge out rates, and markups.
- Monitor project profitability including claims management to identify areas for risk and opportunities.
- Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for district projects, including reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Supervise, coach, and mentor district finance staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and professional development.
- Troubleshoot project accounting system and integration issues, working with IT, Operations Technology, finance leaders, and system superusers to resolve access, synchronization, reporting, and data-alignment concerns.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies, including internal controls and external audit requirements.
- Handle ad-hoc financial assignments and projects as required.
- Support project closeout processes.
- Respond to requests received from internal and external auditors.
- Help champion a strong partnership and act as liaison between the district finance team and its operational counterparts.
- Support Senior Finance Manager and Senior Director of Finance on continuous improvement initiatives.
- University degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant education
- CPA or other relevant professional designation or equivalent experience
- Relevant project experience of at least 5 years
- Supervisory experience of at least 2 years
- Advanced Excel proficiency, ability to work with complex formulae, XLOOKUP/INDEXMATCH functions, and arrays
- Proficiency with ERP systems; experience in Viewpoint Vista or InEight considered an asset
- Industrial Construction and public company experience is an asset
- Ability to forge, grow, and maintain positive relationships with multiple stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, meet the time demands of unpredictable activities, handle pressure, and meet challenges in a dynamic business environment
