Position Overview

BME is seeking a seasoned Director of Construction to build and lead our commercial construction department as we enter a new phase of growth. This role is ideal for a proven heavy mechanical leader who has successfully built teams, implemented scalable systems, and driven operational performance across multiple projects. The Director of Construction will be responsible for establishing structure, developing leaders, and ensuring consistent, profitable execution across all construction projects. This is a high-impact leadership role with significant influence on the company’s growth and operational strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all construction projects to ensure they are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Monitor job performance, margins, and forecasting across the project portfolio.
  • Implement consistent project management processes and reporting.
  • Drive accountability for financial results at the project and department levels.
  • Build and lead the construction department across multiple locations.
  • Hire, develop, and manage project managers, superintendents, and field leaders.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and reporting structures.
  • Create career paths and leadership development plans for construction team members.
  • Implement and optimize project management software, workflows, and documentation.
  • Standardize estimating handoffs, project kickoff processes, and closeout procedures.
  • Develop and maintain construction playbooks, SOPs, and best practices.
  • Improve scheduling, labor planning, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure full compliance with safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Conduct regular site visits to reinforce standards and support field teams.

 

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in commercial HVAC or mechanical construction.
  • 5+ years in a senior leadership role managing project teams.
  • Proven experience building or scaling a construction department or business unit.
  • Strong financial acumen, including job costing, margin management, and forecasting.
  • Experience implementing project management systems and standardized processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience in multi-location service or mechanical contracting environments.
  • Familiarity with construction management software (e.g., Procore, BuildOps, Sage, etc.).
