Responsibilities

Apply Human Engineering knowledge and principles to the analysis, design, and evaluation of complex systems

Design and document system software requirements (e.g. Developing, reviewing and approving software and hardware PVI for cockpit and other interfaces)

Supporting civil and military certification activities
- →
Define and validate/test system performance requirements to ensure safe and successful human operation of physical, functional, and program interfaces for all system operators

Apply human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of complex systems

Develop and implement research methodologies and analysis plans to test and evaluate developmental prototypes

Apply a knowledge of military standards (such as MIL-STD-1472, MIL-STD-1474, MIL-STD-1787, MIL-STD-3009, MIL-STD-411F, MIL-HDBK-516) to meet program requirements

Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate HE considerations into the overall system design, development, and production

Conduct user engagement activities throughout the design process via interviews, focus groups, field studies, etc

Occasional business travel and after-hours support may be required
Requirements
~2 min readBachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Cognitive Psychology or other Human Engineering related field of study.
3+ years of work experience in Human Engineering or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
Level 3 - Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years’ or Master’s and 3+ years' experience
Associate Certification from Board Certification in Professional Ergonomics or equivalent education
Understanding of Human System Integration (HSI) in the defense acquisition process
Knowledge of military standards (such as MIL-STL-1472, MIL-STD-1474, MIL-STD-2525, MIL-STD-1787, MIL-STD-3009, MIL-HDBK-516, MIL-STD 411F, DoDI 5000.95, and JSSG-2010)
Ability to derive Human Engineering requirements
Experience supporting defense programs
Experience in program documentation of the HE processes and products in a format consistent with US Military Data Item Descriptions (e.g. Human Engineering Program Plan, Human Engineering Design Approach Document – Operator, Human Engineering Design Approach Document – Maintainer, Human Engineering Test Plan, Human Engineering Test Report, et. al)
Experience with the user interface software prototyping tools
Experience with Usability software
Knowledge in Human Perception and Cognition
Experience with Human Performance Modeling
Experience in workload assessments and situation awareness assessments such as NASA TLX
Experience in conducting tasks analyses and mapping user workflow
Ability to evaluate designs against Human Readiness Levels (HRLs)
Experience in Agile Development
Previous experience with civil certification knowledge (e.g. FAA/CS 29)
Testing or evaluation experience: Ergonomic assessments, lighting evaluations, intelligibility testing, as well as workload, cognitive or usability testing
Previous experience developing style guides and implementing UI design tenets
Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications.
