COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR
Quick Summary
Set and own PCCC’s communications strategy in close consultation with PCCC’s Co-Founders, developing and driving an integrated strategy that reflects the organization’s mission, priorities, and goals.
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC, BoldProgressives.org), a million-member grassroots organization building progressive power at the local, state, and federal levels, is seeking an experienced, strategic Communications Director.
This senior-level position will set and drive PCCC’s communications strategy across earned media, digital platforms, social media, rapid response, organizational messaging, and public-facing storytelling.
This is a full-time, salaried remote position with generous benefits including unlimited time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, and a 401k plan. Washington, DC is preferred, but remote candidates will be considered for exceptional applicants. Our team is virtual, with staff around the country.
The Communications Director will report to PCCC’s Co-Founders.
Salary is commensurate with skills and experience, in the range of $100,000-$130,000.
WHO YOU ARE:
You are a seasoned communications professional with strong political instincts, excellent judgment, and the ability to see the political landscape clearly. You know where PCCC’s voice belongs in major political moments and how to build the infrastructure to make that voice heard.
You are fluent in both earned media and digital strategy, with a strong understanding of how online presence, press strategy, rapid response, and organizational storytelling work together. You are a strong writer and editor who can move quickly under pressure while maintaining clarity, accuracy, and message discipline.
You are comfortable serving as a public spokesperson, managing and developing staff, building relationships with reporters and political stakeholders, and acting as a strategic thought partner to senior leadership. You believe deeply in PCCC’s mission: economic populism, democratic accountability, and building progressive power.
Responsibilities include:
- Set and own PCCC’s communications strategy in close consultation with PCCC’s Co-Founders, developing and driving an integrated strategy that reflects the organization’s mission, priorities, and goals.
- Shape what PCCC says, when it says it, and how it says it across earned media, digital platforms, social media, member communications, and public-facing channels.
- Lead PCCC’s digital and social media presence, including organizational voice, editorial strategy, content planning, audience growth, and online engagement.
- Drive earned media through proactive pitching, rapid response, reporter relationship-building, press releases, statements, and narrative development.
- Identify opportunities for PCCC to shape and drive political narratives, rather than simply respond to them.
- Manage and develop the press team, including setting priorities, improving systems, and supporting staff growth.
- Partner with PCCC’s electoral, advocacy, and government relations teams to ensure the organization’s work is communicated clearly and strategically.
- Serve as a strategic thought partner on the front end of planning, not only as a back-end storyteller.
- Represent PCCC publicly through on-the-record press engagement and organizational spokesperson duties.
- Prepare PCCC principals and senior leaders for media appearances, interviews, statements, and public communications.
- Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality.
- Other duties as necessary.
Strong applicants will have:
- Significant experience in progressive political communications, including experience in electoral campaigns, advocacy organizations, Capitol Hill, or a combination of these settings.
- Strong understanding of the progressive ecosystem, including relationships with relevant media, political, advocacy, and movement stakeholders.
- Significant experience navigating political and media environments, including understanding the incentives, psychology, and decision-making of important political and media players.
- Hands-on experience building or managing an organization’s digital voice and understanding the strategic relationship between digital presence and earned media.
- Experience managing and developing staff, especially within a small or fast-moving communications team.
- Excellent writing, editing, and message-development skills across formats, including statements, press releases, talking points, emails, social media content, and rapid response materials.
- Strong storytelling instincts, including the ability to connect issues, elections, candidates, campaigns, and organizational priorities into compelling narratives.
- Confidence and credibility to serve as an organizational spokesperson and senior strategic thought partner.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, virtual environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to progressive values, economic populism, democratic accountability, and building progressive power.
