JOB TITLE: Tournament Traveler – Lanes Monitor Associate
LOCATION: Tournament Site (Las Vegas, NV or Mooresville, NC)
POSITION TYPE: Temporary, Full-Time
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Lane Monitor Supervisor
WORK HOURS: Varying shifts are scheduled seven days per week based on tournament operations. The ability to work early in the mornings, late in the evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours is required.
POSITION SUMMARY:
USBC is looking for dedicated, service-minded individuals to join our tournament team as a Lanes Monitor Associate. This highly visible role is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while ensuring adherence to USBC general playing rules and tournament policies. Their presence and professionalism are essential to the success of USBC Championship events.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Squad Room Duties – greet and direct participants, make pre-squad announcements, and organize march-outs.
- Competition Service – communicate “trouble calls” (mechanical issues), scoring corrections, approach problems, fan interference, slip-and-falls, etc.
- Apply USBC/tournament policy – competition compliance: Sportsmanship, pace, scoring, and playing rules.
- Regularly participate in scheduled meetings and huddles. Keep tournament leaders apprised of department activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be neat and well-groomed always as will have frequent contact with guests, clients, and supporting staff.
• Superior customer service proficiencies- service-minded and engaged.
• Effective communication skills-ability to speak clearly and confidently.
• Focused–the ability to complete tasks accurately in a distraction-filled environment.
• Robust interpersonal skills–team player.
• Adaptable and flexible approach to changing operational needs.
• Computer and communication systems literate - PC, multi-line phones, and two-way radios.
• Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive participant, financial, personnel, scoring, and operational information.
EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or continuing education.
- Familiarity with tournament bowling and bowling terminology.
- Understanding of USBC Playing Rules & Tournament Rules.
- Ability to pass USBC Registered Volunteer Program background screening and adhere to the Code of Conduct of the USBC Registered Volunteer Program.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to work in an occasionally noisy environment with potential short-term exposure to non-toxic fumes.
- Must be mobile as well as sit or stand for extended periods.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
TRAVEL: This position will require the employee to be on-site for the Championships, so relocation is required for up to 6 months at a time.
