Teacher's Success Story Role Description & Purpose The British Council is seeking a committed and inspiring Teacher of English to provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience. The role exists to promote and ensure high-quality teaching and effective learning of English, while actively supporting the wider aims of the British Council and its cultural relations mission. As a Teacher of English, you will work within a global organisation and play an important role in supporting the British Council’s worldwide English strategy. You will deliver English language teaching to the highest professional standards, contributing to the organisation’s reputation as a world authority in English Language Teaching. Through your day-to-day work, you will help maintain and enhance the British Council’s standing for excellence, innovation, and learner-centred practice. The role also places strong emphasis on continuous professional development. You will be expected to reflect on your teaching practice, engage in professional learning opportunities, and share best practice with colleagues. By working collaboratively with other teachers and academic teams, you will contribute to a culture of quality, professionalism, and continuous improvement. Teaching forms the core of this role, and you will be responsible for delivering engaging, effective, and inclusive English language lessons that meet learner needs and align with British Council standards. You will create a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages progress, confidence, and active participation, while ensuring that teaching practice consistently reflects current ELT methodology. This role is ideal for a motivated English language professional who is passionate about teaching, committed to quality, and inspired by the opportunity to contribute to the British Council’s global impact through education and cultural relations. Role Accountabilities In this role, you will plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of diverse learners while aligning with British Council Global Teaching Standards. You will monitor learner progress, provide regular feedback, and actively support learner autonomy and achievement. Maintaining high teaching standards is essential, and you will engage in continuous professional development to support quality and best practice in English Language Teaching. You will contribute to teaching centre activities by working collaboratively with colleagues to develop and improve courses, materials, and services. The role includes supporting customer service, local marketing activities, and completing teaching-related administrative tasks to agreed standards, while consistently demonstrating British Council values and professional behaviours. You will build positive relationships with students and colleagues, promote understanding of the UK and its values, and encourage intercultural engagement as part of the learning experience. You will also ensure full compliance with policies relating to safeguarding, data protection, equality, diversity and inclusion, SEND, and health and safety, helping to create a safe and inclusive learning environment. Qualifications & Experience Essential * University degree or equivalent * Language proficiency: Near‑native English; CEFR C2 / IELTS Academic 8.0+ in all four skills * Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Certificate TESOL (TEFLi) or equivalent * 2 years post-certificate experience (TEFLi) (and/or equivalent to 1,200 hours). Experience in teaching relevant age groups to be specified by the centre • Early Years aged 2 to 5 (400+hours) • Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours) • Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours) • Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours) • University/Vocational students aged 18 to 25 (400+hours) • Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours) Desirable * Recognised diploma in EFL e.g., DELTA/ Trinity Diploma (TEFLq) * Specialism where appropriate e.g., YL qualification: TYLEC (or equivalent), PGCE/BEd in Primary or relevant subject. Important Information * Location: the position is based in Mexico City. The teacher will be required to work from our centre and partnership institutions * Contract Hours: 37.5 contracted hours, inclusive of 25 hours of teaching, Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday, including split weekends. This role requires mornings and/or evenings availability. Every effort is made to simplify to shifts and make commute convenient. * Contract Type: this is a permanent, full-time position * Salary: 28,350 – 35,000 MXN per month, depending on experience and qualifications * Benefits: 35 annual leave plus public holidays, benefits superior to those required by law * Right to Work: The candidates must have legal right to live and work in Mexico. * Background Screening: all successful candidates are obliged to undergo comprehensive background screening * Closing Date: 19th May 2026 A connected and trusted UK in a more connected and trusted world.
