Recreation Department – Therapeutic Recreation Division
Salary: $18.22/hour

The Town of Brookline is seeking a part-time Therapeutic Recreation Lead Program Specialist to support inclusive programming for children, teens, and adults with disabilities. This position leads community outings, seasonal activities, and adaptive recreation programs that foster engagement, fun, and skill-building in a supportive environment. Work schedules vary by season and program, typically ranging from 4 – 18 hours weekly or biweekly. Additional tasks/program support may be required as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and implement adaptive group programs in arts, dance, fitness, nature, music, theatre, and sports.
  • Lead community outings and seasonal multi-week programs (5–8 weeks).
  • Promote inclusion by adapting activities and directions to meet individual needs.
  • Ensure participant safety, manage group dynamics, and address behavioral concerns when needed.
  • Supervise part-time program support staff during programs.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and the Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
  • Safely drive a 12- or 15-passenger van with participants for community programs (training provided).

Qualifications:

Experience working with individuals with disabilities is strongly preferred. Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly with participants, parents, and colleagues. Enrollment in or completion of an accredited college/university program in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Management, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, or Early Childhood Education is preferred.

Requirement: Must have a Valid Class D Driver's License
