Rewind Operator

Summary:  Operates a rewinder machine, reworking individual rolls of finished flexible packaging material to remove or correct any defects and producing rolls adhering to required specifications.

Key Accountabilities:

• Obtains rework schedule from supervisor and determines appropriate unwind roll configuration using code number from production order and unwind roll chart
• Determines defect(s) on roll to be reworked from code number supplied by Slitter Operator and/or observation
• Loads rolls (approximately 32-75 pounds) manually onto unwind shaft, obtaining assistance if necessary.  For rolls over 75 pounds, a hoist must be used
• Threads machine with material and adjusts rider roll pressure, pneumatic brake, and tension on dancer roll as required
• Rewinds film onto empty core, maintaining desired speed and tension and insuring impression count is accurate
• Removes, with shoe knife, any irreparable or flagged material including print, laminating and finishing defects, limiting splices per finished roll to three or less
• Removes belled edge appearance by trimming belled edge slightly
• Inspects material, while running, for other defects such as heat seal skipout or inaccurate slitting
• Produces roll of packaging material with desired conformation and checks finished roll to insure correct unwind configuration
• Removes roll from rewind shaft and weighs, attaching necessary identification sticker to inside of core
• Weighs waste material and accurately records weight on production report
• Carries roll to pack-out area
• Selects and assembles appropriate shipping boxes, wraps roll in protective material, inserts core plugs, and secures roll(s) in shipping container by stretch wrapping, banding, or taping as instructed
• Fills out roll lists, recording weights and roll numbers accurately, and attaches required material identification to side of box
• Transports shipping container(s) to designated storage or holding area
• Maintains machinery and related equipment as prescribed
• Keeps work areas and related equipment in neat and orderly condition
• Cuts cores as necessary and performs impression checks of slit rolls when needed
• Performs other duties as assigned
