About the Role

~1 min read

Here’s your chance to shape the future of one of the most influential merchandise portfolios in Australian and New Zealand retail. A million ways to make an impact sits at the heart of this role — from leading a talented buying team to building the strategies that set the pace for our industry. You’ll join a collaborative, energised group of commercial thinkers who back each other in, with a culture built on support, learning and inspiring you to give it a red hot go every day.

Due to an internal promotion we now have a Merchandise Manager position available based in our National Support office in Burnley, Melbourne. As a Merchandise Manager, you’ll set the direction for your category, nurture strong supplier partnerships locally and globally, and create the experiences that help our customers shop with confidence both instore and online.

In this role, every day is an opportunity to influence how millions of customers interact with Bunnings. You’ll:

  • Shape category strategies using deep market insights and global trends, uncovering new avenues for growth and innovation.
  • Build mutually valuable partnerships with local and international suppliers, strengthening relationships that drive long term commercial success.
  • Guide, coach and develop a team of buyers to grow their commercial capability, strategic thinking and leadership impact.
  • Collaborate across the business — from operations and marketing to supply chain and digital — to bring great ideas to life.
  • Optimise range and brand architecture to ensure we continue to offer best-in-class value.
  • Drive initiatives that lift productivity, enhance our customer experience, and streamline the way we work.
  • Lead the design of meaningful promotional plans that connect with customers and build category participation.
  • Champion merchandising approaches that make shopping easier, more intuitive, and more inspiring.

You’re a seasoned retail merchandise leader who thrives on setting direction, developing people and building strong commercial partnerships. You bring a strategic, future focused mindset with a genuine passion for helping teams grow and succeed.

You’ll fit right in if you:

  • Love working in a collaborative environment where ideas flow freely and people have each other’s backs.
  • Are energised by solving complex challenges and turning insights into meaningful action.
  • Enjoy balancing commercial outcomes with customer value and long term sustainability.
  • Are known for clear communication, strong influencing skills and the confidence to lead through change.
  • Believe that the best results come from shared ownership, open dialogue and driving high performance

  • Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Commerce, Economics or a related field
  • Strong experience in buying and category management within retail
  • Proven success leading and developing high performing teams of buyers
  • Commercial sharpness, data driven thinking and genuine curiosity
  • Well-rounded financial and marketing capability
  • The ability to shape a vision, bring people on the journey and execute with impact
