Key Responsibilities


  • Design and Planning: Develop roadway alignment, profiles, and cross-sections; prepare construction plans and specifications.
  • Traffic Operations: Design traffic signals, roundabouts, signs, pavement markings, and temporary traffic control (maintenance of traffic) plans.
  • Data Analysis: Conduct traffic impact studies, capacity analyses, crash data analysis, and warrant studies for new traffic signals or signs.
  • Safety and Maintenance: Inspect infrastructure, evaluate safety improvements, and manage traffic signal timing.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with surveyors, urban planners, and government agencies, and present designs at public meetings.


Required Qualifications and Skills


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Licensure: EIT required.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, or traffic simulation software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM).
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and state Department of Transportation (DOT) standards.
