Linux Security Engineer

CVP is seeking a Linux Security Engineer to support the implementation of a successful Cybersecurity program, with a primary focus on assisting the organization’s migration from on‑premises datacenters to cloud environments—specifically Amazon Web Services (AWS). The ideal candidate will have strong Linux security expertise and experience supporting hybrid environments during large‑scale cloud transitions.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Administer and maintain Linux (RHEL, CentOS) servers across on‑prem and AWS cloud environments
- →Support cloud‑migration efforts, specifically transitioning workloads from on‑prem datacenters into AWS while ensuring secure configurations and compliance
- →Remediate server, cloud, and software issues in hybrid environments
- →Assist with datacenter hardware tasks (racking, stacking, cabling) when needed
- →Investigate root causes of security issues across physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructure
- →Perform vulnerability remediation, patch validation, and AWS security best‑practice enforcement
- →Execute remote management and troubleshooting of Linux servers, cloud instances, and workstations
- →Collaborate with application, SRE, and cloud teams to support modernization, system maintenance, and patching
- →Use Ansible and other orchestration platforms to automate configuration management, patching, baseline enforcement, and operational workflows
- →Develop and maintain Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC) configurations to support repeatable, secure, and scalable AWS deployments
- →Support DevSecOps pipelines and CI/CD practices by integrating security controls, scanning, automation, and compliance checks into deployment workflows
- →Represent security interests in cloud‑architecture discussions and help implement AWS security best practices
- →Document procedures, create/maintain SOPs, and brief leadership and stakeholders
- →Provide guidance aligned to NIST, FISMA, agency cloud policies, and federal cybersecurity frameworks
Requirements
~1 min read- Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance (US Citizenship Required)
- 4‑year degree in Computer Science or related field + 5 years of experience, or 8 years of experience without a degree
- Hands‑on Linux administration experience (RHEL, CentOS) in physical, virtual, and cloud contexts
- Experience performing system patching, upgrades, and firmware updates
- Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills in cybersecurity contexts
- Experience with vulnerability remediation
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience providing Microsoft Server support as needed
- Knowledge of NIST, FISMA, and cloud‑security frameworks
- Experience with automation/orchestration tools such as Ansible for configuration management and secure baselining
- Experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or similar)
- Working familiarity with DevSecOps practices, including integrating security into CI/CD pipelines
- Security+ or other security certification
- Two years of federal security support experience
- Experience with proactive monitoring (SNMP, Nagios, Splunk, Ansible, Spacewalk, etc.)
- Experience with capacity management and performance trending
- Experience working with vendors and service providers
- Experience with ServiceNow, Splunk, Tanium, Elastic, Microsoft security tools
- Experience designing or operating Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) or similar orchestration frameworks
- Experience implementing IaC for cloud deployments (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible Collections)
- Experience supporting DevSecOps pipelines, automated compliance checks, or security‑as‑code workflows
