The surplus lines tax analyst is responsible for coordinating timely filing and payment of surplus lines taxes to respective state(s). At most, six states will be the responsibility of one person.  As part of a team that files taxes, each analyst will be cross-trained in at least one other state to be able to support colleagues on and across teams. Primary tasks include running reports, filing taxes, investigating and resolving corrections, answering questions from field offices, and collaborating with state insurance departments.

Responsibilities

  • Timely and accurate completion of agency/individual regulatory surplus lines tax filing reports
  • Provide professional advice and counsel internally regarding surplus lines taxes; Assist peers with finding and interpreting state regulations pertaining to surplus lines tax filings, as required
  • Communicate with state insurance departments to ensure proper statutory compliance with applicable surplus lines laws and codes
  • Participate in projects and other activities, as required
  • Comply with all business defined policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Demonstrated competency in the comprehension of insurance regulations and statutes
  • Working knowledge of commercial property/casualty coverage and services and/or insurance licensing
  • Proficient use of applicable technology (ConceptOne, ImageRight, Excel, SharePoint, Salesforce, any other system required by state)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing/effective customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • Ability to analyze and prioritize multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to meet deadlines based on state tax due dates & filing dates
  • Demonstrated application of critical thinking skills
