Odyssey Systems is seeking an Senior Lab Engineer (SE‑4 ) to support aircraft and weapon‑system cybersecurity test and evaluation activities with the 48th Cyberspace Test Squadron (TGEA) at Edwards AFB, CA. The Lab Engineer will operate, maintain, configure, and enhance specialized laboratory and field‑test equipment used to emulate, stimulate, monitor, and assess aircraft communications, navigation, and data‑link systems during cybersecurity and penetration‑test events.

 

The successful candidate will prepare test tools and equipment for cyber test events, support equipment deployment to remote test locations, coordinate technical requirements with test sites, and troubleshoot hardware, software, RF, network, and interface issues during test execution.

 

This is a full‑time onsite position at Edwards AFB, CA. TDY travel may be required for test‑site equipment setup, integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, configure, and troubleshoot laboratory and field‑test systems supporting cybersecurity, avionics, RF, navigation, communications, and data‑link testing
  • Prepare test equipment, tools, software, firmware, and configurations for penetration testing and cyber test events
  • Update and improve lab tools, test systems, equipment configurations, and supporting documentation to meet evolving test requirements
  • Support RF testing while complying with RF safety procedures, equipment operating limits, and site‑specific safety guidelines
  • Establish, maintain, and troubleshoot RF, network, serial, and data interfaces supporting GPS, ADS‑B, Link 16, ACARS, and other systems
  • Coordinate with test sites and external stakeholders to identify equipment, interface, power, network, access, environmental, and system requirements prior to test execution
  • Develop and maintain equipment setup guides, configuration records, operating procedures, test checklists, and troubleshooting references
  • Support test execution by monitoring equipment performance, resolving technical issues, collecting logs/data, and documenting test‑support activities
  • Identify equipment limitations, integration risks, maintenance needs, and resource shortfalls; recommend improvements to enhance test readiness and execution

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance:Must have an active Secret clearance; ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance

 

Education: Masters Degree

Years of Experience:10+ years of relevant experience in engineering, RF systems, avionics testing, EW testing, communications systems, or similar technical fields. (additional years may substitute for education)

  • Experience maintaining, configuring, and troubleshooting test or fielded electronic systems
  • Strong RF safety awareness
  • Ability to travel in support of TDY test events
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple equipment‑preparation and test‑support tasks simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications

Clearance: TS/SCI

Years of Experience: 20 years of relevant experience

  • Experience with Spirent, AirTel, 45‑TS, VR‑1000, SDRs, and similar systems
  • Familiarity with RF protocols, antennas, EMI troubleshooting, and power measurement
  • Knowledge of GPS, ADS‑B, Link 16, ACARS, and related systems
  • Experience supporting avionics, embedded systems, or cyber‑physical testing
  • Familiarity with Linux/Windows OS and laboratory networking configurations
  • Ability to interpret system diagrams, ICDs, wiring diagrams, and technical data
  • Experience coordinating test‑site requirements and integration needs
  • Experience with test instrumentation, data capture, RF recording, and packet logging

Technical Skills

  • Experience maintaining, configuring, troubleshooting, and documenting test equipment, laboratory systems, or fielded electronic systems
  • Working knowledge of RF safety procedures and safe operation of RF‑emitting equipment
  • Experience with RF, telemetry, communications, navigation, or test‑support systems such as Spirent, AirTel, 45‑TS, VR‑1000, SDRs (preferred).
  • Familiarity with RF protocols, signal generation/analysis, spectrum concepts, antennas, cabling, connectors, attenuation, power measurement, and EMI troubleshooting (preferred)
  • Knowledge of GPS, ADS‑B, Link 16, ACARS, and aircraft communication, navigation, surveillance, and data‑link technologies (preferred)
  • Experience supporting avionics, embedded systems, weapons systems, communications systems, or cyber‑physical test environments (preferred)
  • Experience preparing, configuring, updating, validating, and documenting specialized tools for cybersecurity assessments (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows OS, networking fundamentals, IP addressing, serial interfaces, switches, routers, firewalls, and lab‑network configurations (preferred)
  • Ability to interpret system diagrams, ICDs, wiring diagrams, test procedures, manuals, and technical data packages (preferred)
  • Familiarity with test instrumentation, data capture, RF recording, signal playback, packet capture, logging, and post‑test data transfer (preferred)

Interpersonal Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate technical requirements with test sites, engineers, operators, maintainers, and test teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced test environment
  • Ability to travel for TDY support and work effectively with diverse technical stakeholders
