Hemodialysis Bio Medical Technician

Under the direction of the Biomedical Coordinator, performs preventative maintenance, repairs of biomedical equipment and related tasks necessary to ensure proper records and documentation. Incumbent is guided by a thorough knowledge of; biomedical engineering principles, methods, techniques, procedures, applicable codes and regulations and the operation and use of departmental equipment and supplies, as well as a knowledge of sound principles of biomedical engineering. The Hemodialysis Bio Medical Technician is responsible for overseeing the overall operational condition, maintenance, and repair of all water treatment equipment, all medical equipment, and mechanical/electrical systems to ensure patient safety and the safety of all staff operating such equipment.

• →Performs and documents biomedical equipment repairs and tests all new and repaired biomedical equipment before it is put into service.
• →Performs and documents scheduled inspections, maintenance, and electrical safety tests of biomedical equipment necessary to maintain conformance to code requirements. Investigates and recommends remedial action on incidents involving biomedical equipment.
• →Maintains an adequate inventory of biomedical equipment and supplies.
• →Maintains Biomedical Engineering work area in a clean and orderly manner.
• →Trouble-shoots, repairs and performs preventative maintenance on biomedical equipment utilizing sophisticated test equipment.
• →Maintains records of preventative maintenance and equipment repairs utilizing personal computers.
• →Assists in training medical and nursing staff in the safe use of biomedical equipment.
• →Services and calibrates equipment in OR and at patient's bedside, should be able to reassure and lend confidence to nursing staff and patients during unusual procedures with equipment unfamiliar to the aforementioned.
• →Responds to calls for emergency repairs and is available to call 24 hours daily, seven days a week.
• →Must be familiar with the use of toxic chemicals and capable of working safely in the presence of high voltages.
• →Attends all hospital and departmental meetings as may be required. May also be required to attend outside meetings and training sessions as needed in the performance of his work.
• →Reviews field related literature, recalls, hazards, JCAHO requirements and equipment evaluations.
• →Provides technical support on new and replacement biomedical equipment and reviews work performed by outside vendors to ensure defined specifications are met and results are properly documented.
• →Required to provide own transportation for service of equipment not located on hospital grounds and may be required to pick up spare parts as necessary.
• →Will be required to work overtime as necessary.
• →Required to use a particulate respirator (mask) when exposed to patients with suspected or known airborne viruses.
• →Responsible for maintaining and repairing all dialysis machines, water treatment equipment, and reuse equipment.
• →Perform preventative maintenance and repair dialysis machines.
• →Responsible for maintaining the reuse of equipment and machines.
• →Responsible for the water treatment at the dialysis facility.
• →Assure logs are maintained and managed in accordance with regulatory standards.
• →Performs, evaluates, and reports water/dialysate sample collection and any actions required.
• →Assure all water testing and cultures are addressed by policy and procedure and standards.
• →Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly trend analysis on the water system to assure system functions as designed.
• →Performs initial and annual verification and ongoing monitoring of patient care staff's technique for testing the water system, assuring tests and documentation comply with manufacturer's specifications for the devices and test equipment used.
• →Must attend all required hospital in-service programs.
• →Responsible for reviewing and incorporating the Hospital and Department Mission Statements in daily work activities.
• →Responsible for reviewing Hospital and Departmental Continuous Quality Improvement Goals, procedures and models.

• College graduate with a minimum of two-year associate degree in electronics or biomedical technology preferred.
• Current portable RO certification
• Annual water validation certification
• Braum dialysis machine certification preferred
• Minimum of 3 years as a Bio Medical hemodialysis technician.
• Experience working with B.Braum machines and Evoqua RO systems preferred.
• One year's experience in field in a hospital surrounding.
• Must be able to interact with all levels of hospital personnel, patients, physicians and outside contacts.
