About the Role 

The VAVE Systems Engineer serves as a technical leader responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing product and process cost-reduction initiatives across Carrier’s commercial HVAC portfolio. This role combines advanced engineering expertise, value engineering methodologies, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver significant cost savings while maintaining product performance, quality, reliability, safety, and compliance. 

In this role, you will independently lead complex projects, mentor junior engineers, and influence engineering and business decisions across multiple product platforms to support annual productivity goals and margin expansion strategies. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Technical Leadership: Lead complex cost-reduction projects from concept through production implementation. Serve as the technical authority for assigned product families, driving decisions using data, rigorous testing, and engineering judgment. 
• Value Engineering & Cost Reduction: Lead Value Engineering (VE), VA/VE, and Design-to-Cost activities to identify cost-reduction opportunities through: Design simplification and material optimization Component standardization and alternate technologies Supplier-driven innovation and manufacturing efficiency improvements 
• Business Case & Financial Impact: Build business cases and project justifications that quantify cost savings, investment requirements, risks, and implementation timing to support margin improvement objectives. 
• Product Development & Validation: Develop engineering concepts, calculations, models, drawings, specifications, and validation plans. Coordinate prototype builds, testing, and qualification while managing engineering releases (ECNs, BOM updates, technical signoffs). 
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Supply Chain, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Quality, Service, Product Management, and Finance teams to execute productivity programs and present updates to leadership. 
• Risk Management: Lead technical risk assessments and Design FMEA activities. Evaluate the impact of proposed changes on performance, warranty, manufacturability, and customer experience, developing mitigation plans for identified risks. 
• Mentoring & Best Practices: Mentor and coach junior engineers on tools, product knowledge, and cost-reduction methodologies. Lead design reviews, help establish standard work, and contribute to organizational capability development. 

Minimum Qualifications 

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering. 
• 8+ years of engineering experience in product development, sustaining engineering, value engineering, or cost-reduction programs. 
• 3+ years leading cross-functional technical teams and engineering improvement initiatives. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline. 
• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification. 
• Hands-on experience with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), Design FMEA, DOE, and reliability engineering. 
• Proficiency with Creo, Windchill, PLM systems, and engineering analysis tools.
