Athletic Trainer (North Canton High School)

• →Prepares athletes for practice or competition.
• →Evaluates and manages injuries and determines whether a referral is necessary.
• →Maintains a medical file on each athlete and acts as a liaison between the physician and the athlete.
• →Implements treatment and rehabilitation programs under the supervision of a physician.
• →Develops conditioning programs for injured and non-injured athletes.
• →

  For Athletic Trainers working in the Clinical/Ambulatory setting may perform the following:

• →Performs a comprehensive health maintenance review and provides an oral report to the physician regarding patient history and chief complaint.
• →Scribes documentation of the visit into the medical record by remaining in the exam room with the physician as the patient is treated.
• →Reviews post-visit instructions with the patient.
• →Assists with gathering data under the supervision of the physician or nurse.
• →Administers treatments under the direction of the physician.
• →Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree and completion of an Athletic Training Program accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.

• Athletic Trainer Certification (ATC) certified by National Athletic Trainers Board of Certification (NATBOC).
• State licensure as an Athletic Trainer (AT) if required by state law.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.

• Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

• For the Clinical/Ambulatory setting:

• Will be required to follow established protocols regarding scribing functions, and keep updated of changes as they occur.

• Participation in training programs related to the ATC field preferred.

• Requires full body motion including handling and lifting up to 75 pounds.
• Manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing, sitting, and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• May be required to drive to other locations.

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
