New Grad RN Resident - Emergency Department

Martin North Hospital’s Emergency Department has multi-disciplinary care teams, and the leading-edge technology needed to diagnose and treat patients effectively, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As a New Grad RN Resident on this team, you will assist fellow caregivers in delivering exceptional care, alongside a success coach. In this role, you will interact directly with patients, families and visitors, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience, supply healthcare information, as needed, and ensure safe and quality care.

A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00PM – 7:30AM.  

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.  

• Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.  

• Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).  

• Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.  

• Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.  

• Document in patients’ medical records. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program) 

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)   

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)/ALS and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire or within one year of beginning work in the Emergency Department 

• New graduate or less than one year of RN work experience OR experienced RN moving from non-inpatient to acute direct care clinical inpatient setting with less than one year of current acute direct patient care RN experience 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) 

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
