Location: Confidential – [Greater Metro Area, State]
Industry: Woodworking / Cabinetry / Custom Millwork

Our client is seeking a seasoned Plant Manager to lead manufacturing operations, strengthen accountability, and drive measurable improvements in plant performance. This is a senior leadership opportunity for a hands-on manufacturing leader who knows how to stabilize operations, improve throughput, and develop a high-performing production team while preserving an employee-focused culture.

The Plant Manager will take ownership of day-to-day manufacturing performance, with particular emphasis on lead times, on-time shipment, quality, machine utilization, preventive maintenance, and frontline leadership. The successful candidate will be highly visible on the production floor and comfortable identifying operational weaknesses, establishing clear standards, and holding leaders and teams accountable for results.

This role is particularly well suited for an experienced operator who has successfully stepped into a manufacturing environment with improvement opportunities and created sustainable gains using existing people, equipment, and plant capacity.

Responsibilities

~1 min read
  • Own plant production performance and execution against customer-committed ship dates.
  • Maintain and improve highly competitive manufacturing lead times.
  • Establish realistic daily production targets and ensure consistent execution against the schedule.
  • Identify and eliminate bottlenecks that restrict throughput or create avoidable delays.
  • Establish clear escalation processes when production or customer commitments are at risk.
  • Reduce late orders, unnecessary schedule changes, poor handoffs, and recurring production disruptions.
  • Lead through supervisors and production leads while maintaining a strong presence on the manufacturing floor.
  • Establish clear expectations, performance standards, and accountability throughout the leadership structure.
  • Strengthen underperforming areas and address inconsistent leadership or execution.
  • Coach and develop emerging leaders within the production organization.
  • Build a disciplined, engaged culture where employees understand both expectations and their role in achieving plant objectives.
  • Establish and enforce quality expectations throughout the manufacturing process rather than relying solely on final inspection.
  • Reduce defects, rework, remakes, and customer-impacting quality escapes.
  • Implement and reinforce standard work, operating procedures, and corrective-action processes.
  • Ensure quality standards are clearly communicated, understood, and consistently followed.
  • Promote a cleaner, safer, more organized, and disciplined manufacturing environment.
  • Maximize throughput and return on existing machinery, equipment, labor, and plant capacity.
  • Improve machine utilization, uptime, and operator discipline.
  • Ensure equipment is appropriately staffed, scheduled, and operated to support production requirements.
  • Drive adherence to preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Partner closely with maintenance personnel to improve equipment reliability and minimize production interruptions.
  • Effectively lead and motivate a multilingual manufacturing workforce, including a significant Spanish-speaking employee population.
  • Ensure production expectations, quality requirements, and safety procedures are understood across language barriers.
  • Utilize bilingual leaders, translators, visual standards, written procedures, and hands-on demonstrations as appropriate.
  • Build trust, engagement, and consistent execution throughout the workforce.

Requirements

~1 min read
  • 5–8+ years of progressive production or plant management experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Direct experience in woodworking, cabinetry, custom millwork, or a closely related manufacturing operation.
  • Demonstrated success improving an underperforming manufacturing operation and delivering measurable operational gains.
  • Strong knowledge of woodworking machinery, production processes, material flow, capacity management, and manufacturing operations.
  • Proven ability to improve throughput, lead times, quality, equipment utilization, and on-time delivery.
  • Experience strengthening frontline leadership and creating accountability through supervisors and leads.
  • Strong floor presence with a high degree of urgency, sound judgment, and willingness to address problems directly.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Spanish-language proficiency is strongly preferred and would be particularly valuable in this environment.
  • Ability to work extensively within an active manufacturing environment and move throughout the production floor for extended periods.
  • Ability to transport materials or equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds when required.
  • Comfortable working around manufacturing noise, airborne particles, machinery, and temperature fluctuations.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to inspect manufactured components and assess quality at close range.

The Plant Manager will be expected to create visible and sustainable improvement across the operation, including:

  • Stronger on-time shipment performance and adherence to committed ship dates.
  • Improved throughput using existing equipment, labor, and capacity.
  • Reduced bottlenecks, downtime, late orders, and preventable production delays.
  • Higher machine utilization and preventive maintenance compliance.
  • Fewer defects, remakes, rework, and customer-impacting quality issues.
  • Clearer quality and operating standards across the plant.
  • Stronger supervisor and production-lead accountability.
  • Better communication and execution across a multilingual workforce.
  • A safer, cleaner, more organized, and more disciplined production environment.
  • Stable, predictable operations capable of supporting continued sales growth.

What We Offer

~1 min read

This is an opportunity to have a meaningful and highly visible impact on an established custom manufacturing operation. Rather than simply maintaining the status quo, the incoming Plant Manager will have the mandate to strengthen the operation, develop its leaders, unlock additional capacity, and build the processes required to support continued growth.

Our client has built its reputation around quality craftsmanship, responsive lead times, and an employee-focused culture. The organization is looking for a leader who can preserve those strengths while bringing greater consistency, accountability, and operational discipline to the plant.

For the right manufacturing leader, this role offers the chance to take ownership of a critical operation, see the direct results of operational improvements, and build a production organization capable of performing at a consistently high level.
