Charleston Collegiate School is an independent day school that strives to recognize, nurture, and challenge each of its students. Organized as a Lower School (PK-5), Middle School (6-8), and Upper School (9-12), CCS prides itself on being an independent, co-educational, non-sectarian, prekindergarten through 12th grade, located just outside of Charleston’s metropolitan area. Charleston Collegiate School offers a thirty-acre campus of vast playing fields and wooded trails and is located only twenty minutes from Charleston’s historic district on one side and Kiawah Island on the other.
CCS has a challenging, supportive learning community that coaches students to become lifelong learners. A CCS education uses the pillars of project-based learning, entrepreneurship, artistic expression, and leadership through outdoor education to teach a high-quality education to a diverse student body.
Job Description
The Kindergarten Teacher at Charleston Collegiate School is responsible for creating a nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that supports early childhood growth and exploration. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative educator with a passion for hands-on, play-based, and project-based learning (PBL), utilizing the school’s outdoor campus to enhance student experiences.
- Develop and implement a dynamic, child-centered curriculum that fosters early literacy, numeracy, social-emotional learning, and inquiry-based exploration. Lessons should integrate hands-on activities, cross-curricular connections, and foundational skills in reading, writing, and math.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of young learners, using assessments and observations to tailor support and enrichment opportunities.
- Foster a warm and inclusive classroom community that encourages curiosity, independence, collaboration, and problem-solving through structured routines and positive behavior support.
- Integrate Charleston Collegiate School’s core values—empathy, integrity, community, optimism, and advocacy—into daily interactions and lessons.
- Leverage the school’s outdoor campus to provide experiential learning opportunities, environmental studies, and nature-based activities that support student engagement and development.
- Collaborate with colleagues and families to support student growth, align teaching practices, and share insights on child development and learning progress.
- Communicate regularly with families, providing updates on student progress, classroom experiences, and strategies for supporting learning at home.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices in early childhood education, PBL, and social-emotional learning.
- Encourage meaningful connections between students and the broader community, integrating service-learning and community engagement into the curriculum when appropriate.
Qualifications
- College Degree (minimum Bachelors)
- Good working knowledge of Google Suite
- Efficient typing, email, database, spreadsheet, and internet skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and get along with co-workers and management
- Ability to maintain regular and timely attendance
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, problem-solve, and manage multiple projects
- Ability to present a professional image as a representative of the School
- Current in advanced first-aid training or equivalent
