Job Summary The purpose of the class is to manage and maintain the Brownsville Airport and to direct all airport functions. The class is responsible for developing airport policies, negotiating with airline companies, and establishing the airport budget. The class researches and formulates long-range goals for the organization; and develops policy and position papers for city management and/ or elected officials. |

Minimum Education & Experience Master’s degree preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Airport Management, Political Science, Business, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited university. |
Special Certifications & Licenses
American Association of Airport Executives Certified member (CM) preferred or be able to obtain within 2 years of obtaining employment with the City of Brownsville, TX. - Department of Aviation.
Airport Security Coordinator (ASC) Certification from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Federal Aviation Administration Private Pilot License, Airplane Single Engine Land and Instrument Rating required. Commercial License, with Multi-engine rating preferred.
Job requires a current, valid Texas Class C driver's license, or possess the ability to obtain a TXDL as required by State Law.

Supervisory & Responsibility

Supervises and directs a group of sufficient size or complexity to require the use of supervisory subordinates.
Financial Responsibility
Calculates amounts due, using some judgment; receives and processes larger amounts (several thousand dollars on one day not uncommon); balances receipts and cash from one or more other employees; monitors budget; brings problems to attention of supervisor; has substantive input into overall organizational budget.
Level & Frequency of Outside Contact
Lots of contact with highly varied groups involving sensitive or difficult interactions that require persuasion and negotiations.
Physical Demands
Light physical effort. Requires performing light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis.
Responsibility for Equipment & Property
Responsible for assigned equipment/property used outside of office; responsible for handing out to and retrieving property/equipment from employees and keeping inventory; use of agency vehicle.
Working Conditions
Fair inside or outside conditions; exposure to disagreeable conditions is brief or otherwise insignificant; space problems; only occasional situations that place the employee in a stressful environment. Frequent travel associated with job; periodic situations that cause stress and tension in the execution of regular duties.
