Position Overview
Under the direction of the Director of Leisure Services or assigned supervisor, the Turf & Field Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, preparation, safety, and appearance of all athletic fields and outdoor sports complex facilities. This position supervises turf maintenance staff, coordinates field preparation for sporting events, manages irrigation and turf health programs, and ensures the complex is maintained to a professional standard for tournaments, leagues, and community events.
Essential Job Functions
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, May include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily athletic field and grounds maintenance
• Maintain and prepare athletic fields, including mowing, edging, aerating, fertilizing, irrigating turf, and dragging infields.
• Set up and stripe fields for soccer, baseball, softball, football, and other athletic events according to regulation standards.
• Monitor field conditions and perform repairs to turf, infield dirt, warning tracks, irrigation systems, fencing, and other field components.
• Develop preventative maintenance schedules for athletic fields, equipment, irrigation systems, and grounds.
• Operate, inspect, and oversee maintenance of groundskeeping equipment including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, aerators, and line-marking equipment.
• Supervise and evaluate Turf Maintenance Technicians and seasonal staff.
• Schedule and assign work duties to ensure the sports complex is prepared for daily operations and special events.
• Assist with seasonal projects including overseeding, sod installation, field renovations, drainage improvements, and landscaping enhancements.
• Coordinate field readiness and support event preparation and teardown activities.
• Ensure walkways, bleachers, courts, pavilions, and surrounding areas remain clean, safe, and free of debris.
• Maintain the structural and aesthetic integrity of the sports complex.
• Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering turf materials, fertilizers, field paint, tools, and maintenance supplies.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and proper operation of equipment.
• Prepare daily written and oral reports regarding field conditions, maintenance activities, and operational needs.
• Provide excellent customer service and assist patrons, coaches, officials, and tournament staff as needed.
• Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization of shops, storage areas, and maintenance facilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must posses required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
• Knowledge of athletic field maintenance, turf management practices, irrigation systems, and landscaping techniques.
• Knowledge of proper operation and maintenance of groundskeeping equipment and tools.
• Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff effectively.
• Ability to prioritize projects and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality athletic facilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education and Experience
High School graduate or equivalent. Experience in athletic field maintenance, groundskeeping, landscaping, or turf management required. Supervisory experience required. Experience operating commercial grounds maintenance equipment required.
Required Licenses or Certificates
• Valid driver’s license required

Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 50+ pounds; ability to operate vehicles and equipment safely. Ability to perform manual labor including bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing. Working conditions are primarily outdoors.
