Part-Time Tutor

Collegewise is a college counseling company that helps high school students confidently navigate their journey to college. Since 1999, we’ve helped more than 30,000 students apply and get accepted to schools—sometimes famous, often not—that they’re excited to attend. We do it all with just the right mix of advice, encouragement, and occasional cheerleading—all backed by data and experience—to ensure that each student’s college admissions process goes smoothly and thoughtfully. And our work doesn’t stop with students who enroll in our program. We speak in public, write, and constantly look for ways to spread relevant college planning information to anyone who needs it, whether or not they work with us. As a part-time tutor, you’ll instruct students privately at our offices and online (via Zoom, e.g.). ACT/SAT tutors may also do some small group work with students. We’re looking for people who are able to work at least ten hours a week, though the number of hours you’ll be offered will depend on your subjects of expertise and the volume of demand. All instructors are expected to have availability most evenings and at least one weekend day to accommodate student schedules through the year. At the moment, we have a strong need for evening availability in Pacific Time.

First, a few basics. You’ll need a four-year college degree and the ability to score in the required percentile for your chosen subjects:

• ACT/SAT, Subject Tests, or AP exams: 99th percentile or above in selected subjects if you wish to tutor
• Academic subjects: 95th percentile on the associated Subject Test(s) or relevant experience teaching that subject
• GMAT, GRE, LSAT, and MCAT tutors: 95th percentile

The hourly rate for this role ranges from $30 to $50.  We’d like our tutors to start as soon as possible but can adjust the starting dates for the right people. Our part-time tutors can also qualify for health benefits (including medical, vision, and dental) and 401(k) matching after meeting eligibility requirements. In many areas–Newport Beach, CA; Austin, TX; Boston, MA; Berkeley Heights, NJ–we have offices where you may be requested for in-person instruction.
