Spring Internship – Finance Team

Organization Overview:
Colorado Legal Services (CLS) is Colorado’s statewide nonprofit legal aid program, with thirteen offices providing civil legal assistance to low-income Coloradans throughout the state. CLS provides free legal assistance in a broad variety of legal areas, including family law, public benefits, eviction defense, consumer protection, services to survivors of serious crime and human trafficking, and many others.

Position Summary:
CLS’s finance team is in charge of the money moving in and out of the organization. An intern with the finance team will get an in-depth look at how money moves through a legal aid organization, learning about expenses – how bills get approved, coded, and paid – and revenue – how the organization gets paid back by its funders. The intern can expect to have standing tasks, such as logging invoices, and bigger projects to work on.
Essential Duties:
- Scan and log invoices
- Prepare check deposits
- Work with Accounts Payable on vendor consolidation
- Work with Grants Accountant on monthly invoicing and reconciliation
Required Qualifications:
- Interest in nonprofit and/or legal aid work
- Detail-oriented, organized, and reliable
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and comfortable learning new software.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
- Student majoring in Accounting or Finance
Location:
This position is housed in the Denver office.
Time commitment:
Part-time, preference for 10+ hours/week but we will work with the interns’ schedule.
Compensation:
The position is unpaid but is open to receiving other work study funds that are student generated. Students may apply for course credit through their Externship Program.
