JOB SUMMARY

The Mechanical & Electrical Estimator is responsible for developing detailed and accurate cost estimates for mechanical and electrical systems from conceptual design through Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP). This role involves reviewing drawings and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier pricing, and preparing competitive bids. The Estimator supports preconstruction activities by ensuring full scope coverage, identifying risks and opportunities, and maintaining accurate cost data. This position collaborates closely with internal teams, clients, design professionals, and trade partners to support successful project delivery.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  • Authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Science, Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or equivalent degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial construction estimating experience required; strongly preferred 10+ years of preconstruction, estimating, and/or operational experience on commercial construction projects.
  • Experience in Mechanical and Electrical Estimation required. 
  • Able to manage multiple projects concurrently, with the ability to multitask, and must work well under pressure to meet competing deadlines.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient using the following software: Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word) and MS Outlook, Sage, and AutoCAD.
  • Strong computer skills and typing skills, including the ability to use estimating software.
  • Advanced ability in Microsoft Excel in the creation and manipulation of spreadsheets.
  • Advanced abilities in bid management, online plan rooms, and database applications.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have a strong attention to detail.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and a CAN-DO attitude.
  • Resourceful and diligent in seeking solutions to problems and adapting to new situations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal structure/supervision while exercising great judgment.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Advanced project estimator skills include performing calculations and conversing in engineering nomenclature to effectively communicate with Engineers, Product Managers, Architects, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Ability to read, understand, and organize construction plans and specifications.
  • Must be able to attend client meetings as required. Light travel is required as necessary.
  • USGBC LEED accreditation preferred.
  •  A professional Estimator Certification is preferred.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare bid-chase briefs, detailed estimates, and preconstruction deliverables from conceptual through GMP phases.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and owner agreements to identify risks and ensure complete scope coverage.
  • Perform constructability reviews, quantity takeoffs, and cost analysis using On-Screen Takeoff and Autodesk Build.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing, bid solicitation, and prequalification.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, bid lists, and procurement tracking logs.
  • Lead and document preconstruction meetings; prepare agendas, minutes, and progress reports.
  • Evaluate bids, prepare bid leveling matrices, and participate in bid-day analysis.
  • Support value analysis, risk mitigation, and logistics planning efforts.
  • Present estimates to clients, design partners, and operations teams; assist in project handoff and buyout.
  • Maintain estimating databases, pricing history, and company best practices.
  • Participate in training, ensure safety compliance, and uphold company values.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
