Academic and Degree Coordinator (Student Services Professional II)

The Academic & Degree Coordinator plays a key role in helping students successfully navigate their academic journey within SDSU Global Campus programs. Reporting to the Associate Director of Evaluations and Enrollment, this position evaluates applications and academic records, determines admission eligibility, and helps students understand how their previous coursework applies toward degree completion. The role combines detailed transcript evaluation, academic policy expertise, and personalized student support to create a clear pathway from admission through graduation. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented, student-centered professional who enjoys solving complex academic questions and helping students turn prior college experience into progress toward an SDSU degree.

• →Evaluate applications and academic records to determine eligibility for admission to SDSU Global Campus programs.
• →Review transcripts, articulate coursework, and evaluate academic records to determine progress toward degree requirements.
• →Advise students and staff on admission, academic policies, degree requirements, and pathways toward successful degree completion.
• →Interpret and apply CSU, university, and community college policies and requirements to individual student situations.
• →Maintain accurate student records and utilize student information, degree audit, and articulation systems to support evaluations and enrollment processes.

• This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. 
• This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. 
• Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.  
• This position is approved for partial telecommuting with onsite work in San Diego, after an initial training period is completed.

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

• Minimum of one to two years of experience in student services or higher education administration requiring interpretation and application of regulations and policies; knowledge of university admission processes and best practices.
• Ability to explain and interpret complex regulations, policies, requirements, and criteria as applied to individual situations.
• Advanced computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, database systems, and student information systems.
• Exceptional student service skills, with emphasis on creating positive student experiences.
• Experience interpreting and explaining academic policies governing public or private university admissions.
• Experience working in a college or university admissions, advising, evaluations, registrar, or other student service-related field.
• Experience interpreting and explaining certification policies of the CSU and California Community College systems is preferred.
• Experience with a college or university student information system; SIMS/R or PeopleSoft preferred.
• Demonstrated experience using a degree audit system; uAchieve preferred.
• Demonstrated experience reviewing and evaluating college transcripts and performing course articulation; CollegeSource experience and the ability to calculate grade point averages is preferred.
