- PhD in History from an accredited institution with a focus on Greece, Rome, or the ancient Mediterranean world. Terminal degree must be formally conveyed by the date of appointment.
- Evidence of, or clear potential for, excellence in teaching in-person ancient Mediterranean history courses.
- Evidence of college- or university-level teaching experience, primarily in-person.
- Evidence of, or clear potential for, scholarly publication and growth.
- Clear potential for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in both Greece and Rome.
- Clear potential for teaching across pre-modern or world history.
- Evidence of effective engagement or potential to engage with a diverse student body.
- Experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that promotes equitable outcomes for all students.
- Experience creating a student-centered learning environment.
- Experience adopting inclusive approaches to mentoring.

The Department of History at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor in Ancient Mediterranean History. While chronological, geographic, and thematic specializations are open, the ability to teach ancient Greek or Roman history is required. The successful candidate will be expected to teach one or both of the department's general education survey courses in pre-modern World History and pre-modern Western Civilization, and to develop additional undergraduate and graduate courses in their areas of specialization. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to teaching and scholarship, with evidence of teaching excellence and strong scholarly potential.
In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Given CSUN’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in a diverse environment, the successful candidate will help the Department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service.
