•           Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.  All But Dissertation (ABD) candidates will be considered but must complete the doctoral degree by August 19, 2027

•           Demonstrated experience or potential in teaching electrical or computer engineering, in-person and/or online, as evidenced by one or more of the following: 1) serving as a course instructor; 2) serving as a teaching assistant; or 3) articulating a clear pedagogical vision in the teaching statement

•           Authored peer-reviewed conference papers or journal articles related to cyber-physical systems, published in IEEE-sponsored or other venues with comparable peer-review standards

•           Demonstrated experience or potential in teaching foundational computer Engineering in one or more of the following areas: digital system design, computer architecture, or microprocessor systems

•           Demonstrated experience or potential in teaching advanced Computer Engineering courses, along with experience designing and developing hardware–software integrated systems, in one or more of the following or closely related areas: robotics, embedded systems, cyber-physical systems, real-time operating systems (RTOS), AI/ML for cyber-physical and embedded systems, Internet of Things (IoT), and distributed systems. Relevant technical experience may include microcontrollers and microprocessors, embedded Linux, device drivers, hardware interfacing, low-level/system programming, real-time systems, and hardware–software co-design

•           Evidence of continued scholarly contributions or novel contributions to cyber-physical systems demonstrated through one or more of the following: 1) three or more peer-reviewed conference papers or journal articles published within the last five years in IEEE-sponsored or comparable peer-reviewed venues; or 2) one or more granted patents related to cyber-physical systems or closely related areas

•           Industry experience in one or more of these or closely related areas: robotics, embedded systems, cyber-physical systems, real-time operating systems (RTOS), AI/ML for cyber-physical and embedded systems, Internet of Things (IoT), and distributed systems

•           Experience in preparing external and internal grant or fellowship proposals

•           Research/Lab experience involving mentoring students from diverse backgrounds

•           Evidence of effective engagement with, or potential to engage with, a diverse student body, including experience using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students

•           Experience creating a student-centered learning environment

•           Experience adopting inclusive approaches to mentoring

The mission of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department is to prepare students for rewarding careers and higher education. The department offers Bachelor of Science Degrees in Electrical Engineering (EE) and Computer Engineering (CE) and Master of Science Degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering. Currently, there are approximately 500 undergraduate majors in EE, 273 undergraduate majors in CE, and 104 graduate students. Master’s degree students are required to complete a thesis or project.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Cyber-Physical Systems.

The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses and labs in Electrical and Computer Engineering and maintain an active research program in Cyber-Physical Systems.

In addition to teaching, the position requires weekly office hours, attending faculty meetings, participation in assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The successful candidate may be required to teach on weekdays, evenings, weekends, and/or online and will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which he/she/they is/are housed for recommending tenure and promotion. Given CSUN’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and engagement in a diverse environment, the successful candidate will help the Department achieve equitable academic outcomes for all students through teaching, student mentorship, scholarship, and service.
