It is an exciting time to join Sonoma State University! In fall 2027, Sonoma State Athletics will have 10 NCAA Division II teams competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association conference as part of the broader reimagining of the university and its programs. In your cover letter, please describe your experience with business and financial operations, budgeting and financial analysis, administrative processes, collaborating with coaches and/or other stakeholders, and managing multiple priorities within a complex organization.

Reporting to the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, the Athletics Business Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Athletics Business Office, including maintaining financial records, managing the deposit and cash collection process, overseeing team supply and equipment purchases, contributing to the development and revision of policies and procedures, and supervising staff and student personnel. The incumbent serves as the department's liaison with other campus units on matters related to accounting, finance, budget, travel, insurance, tax, and human resources. This position is responsible for the personnel and resources of the Athletics Business Office and ensures compliance with university business processes, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

This position requires a bachelor’s degree and minimum of 3 years of experience in operations/financial management or in sport management, including 2 years of progressively responsible and applicable management and/or supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. A master’s degree and higher education experience are preferred. The ability to independently manage multiple work unit priorities and projects, meet critical and cyclical deadlines accurately and timely, maintain strong attention to detail and organizational skills, and provide outstanding customer service to students, staff, faculty, and visitors while working in a professional, fast-paced environment is required. This position requires solid computer skills including, advanced proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). Knowledge of Google Suite, Teamworks (ARMS) Software, NCAA Financial Reporting Software, and PeopleSoft preferred.

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $6,667 to $7,917 a month. This position is a member of the Management Personnel Plan and serves at the pleasure of the President.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 15 paid holidays are offered each year and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year. Sonoma State University is also a Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) Employer.
