The Department of Biology at California State University San Bernardino invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Biology with research expertise in medical microbiology and immunology, to begin August 2027.

The Department of Biology is committed to student success and seeks a colleague who will employ evidence-based methodologies to promote fairness to all and strives to continually improve learning outcomes in the classroom. The successful candidate will develop an independent research program, as well as design and teach lecture and laboratory courses in subjects such as medical microbiology, immunology, microbiology, and related courses. We expect opportunities to develop and teach upper division courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
The successful candidate will be expected to apply for extramural funding, conduct and publish research in medical microbiology and immunology, and employ laboratory and/or field research involving undergraduate and Master’s students. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to service and shared governance to the department, college, and university. Furthermore, the successful candidate will participate in the development of a pre-Clinical Laboratory Science certificate program. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in biology or a related field; postdoctoral experience is highly desired.

Requirements
~1 min read- A Ph.D. (or equivalent) in biology or related field is required by time of appointment
- Publication record in medical microbiology and/or immunology
- Experimental expertise applicable to undergraduate and Master’s level research in medical microbiology
and immunology
- Postdoctoral experience
- University-level instructional experience in plant biology
- Potential for developing an externally funded research program
- Experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students in research

The Department of Biology has 15 tenure-track/tenured faculty with a variety of research interests, as well as lecturers and technicians who provide essential support. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs. The department has facilities for 3D printing, fluorescence microscopy, cell culture and stem cell research, animal care, and plant growth. The CSUSB herbarium hosts a small collection (about 4,000 specimens) of mostly local flora. In addition, the department has access to the College of Natural Science’s Electron Microscope and Image Analysis Center (EMIAC).
