The Division of University Advancement is one of five central divisions of the university whose primary purpose is to enhance the private support and knowledge of the university. This is accomplished by initiating programs, events and activities that stimulate the involvement and interest of alumni, friends, parents, corporations and foundations to develop relationships that will foster and stimulate giving to the university. The Office of the Vice President for University Advancement oversees the offices of development, alumni and external relations, advancement services and annual giving. The division manages and operates the Cal Poly Pomona Philanthropic Foundation, which serves as the official entity to receive and manage all contributions to the University. Under the telework policy it is understood that your physical presence may be required on individual scheduled remote days based on the needs of the campus, division, department, or request of your HEERA Manager.

 

  • Master's Degree
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible professional experience in data analytics, institutional or organizational research, advancement operations, strategic planning, program administration, project management, or a related field, including experience leading complex organizational initiatives and providing direction to professional staff.
  • Thorough knowledge of data analysis, research and statistical methods, organizational and operational analysis, strategic planning, and program evaluation.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and translate findings into recommendations that support executive and operational decision-making.
  • Ability to develop and implement data-informed processes, metrics, reporting frameworks, and operational improvements.
  • Ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives and collaborate effectively with senior administrators, professional staff, campus partners, and external constituents.
  • Demonstrated consultative, facilitation, written communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex information effectively to varied audiences.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive information and complex organizational matters.
  • Proficiency with administrative computing systems, data analysis and visualization tools, Microsoft Office applications, and other relevant software.

 

Positions that require driving for university business by using a personal or state vehicle must comply with the Authorized University Driver Policy. Driving records are monitored and evaluated by the Risk Management Department. The Risk Management Department evaluates a good driving report based on the following criteria. The driver must: 1. Have a valid California or other State Driver’s license. 2. Have no more than 3 motor vehicle violations or been the cause of 3 accidents in a 12-month period (or any combination of 3 thereof) 3. Not have more than 3 DMV Points, if their license is Class C or, 4. Not have more than 5 DMV Points, if their license is Class A, B, or C with endorsements. Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Economic Modeling

  • →Oversee and lead the data analysis and economic modeling activities for the Division of University Advancement.
  • →Build and revise a framework for data-informed decision-making aligned with University Advancement priorities.
  • →Define and create effective metrics that reflect preferred fundraising and donor interaction outcomes.
  • →Create data infrastructure that serves the diverse set of fundraising units/approaches within the Division.
  • →Work directly with various Divisional units to understand their data needs.
  • →Support UA’s various software and data-visualization tools that connect to data analysis.
  • →Lead the cross-Division data visualization (Tableau) group, including Gift Processing, Data Administration, and IT
  • →Lead UA’s data efforts for the campus-wide Lightcast Alumni Pathways system, in concert with Alumni & External Affairs, and IRPA.
  • →Provide data-informed analysis and recommendations that support divisional fundraising goal setting and forecasting.
  • →Utilize data to create narratives that can connect with donors on the impact their donations will/have had on CPP.
  • →Manage at least one Data & Reporting Analyst focused on data analysis, data visualization, and economic modeling.
  • →Interface with Development team and Alumni Affairs on business requirements gathering for data products.

Project Manage Strategic Initiatives

  • →Lead strategic initiatives at the direction of the Vice President for University Advancement that are central to the priorities of the Division and the University at large.
  • →Lead and manage special projects and strategic initiatives requiring data literacy, operational analysis, organizational sensitivity, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • →Advance special projects and strategic initiatives in a manner that allows for durable infrastructure and processes that can be handed off in a self-sufficient form to existing Division and University units.
  • →Form cross-functional and multi-unit teams as needed to achieve project outcomes.

Scholarship & Fund Portfolio

  • →Provide executive oversight of the University Advancement Scholarship & Fund Portfolio and represent University Advancement in the campus-wide scholarship administration and award process.
  • →Provide strategic guidance on approaches to scholarship utilization and management of philanthropic donor funds.
  • →Manage the Director of Scholarship & Fund Management and the Scholarship and Fund Coordinator, including responsibility for assigned supervisory and HEERA manager functions.
  • →Create infrastructure within the Division and across the University to improve scholarship utilization, leading to greater student success. 
  • →Co-lead the campus-wide Scholarship Institutional Workgroup and co-chair the permanent campus-wide Scholarship Committee.

Strategic & Operational Leadership

  • →In close partnership with the Vice President for University Advancement and other Division leaders, define, create, and implement strategic and operational priorities for University Advancement.
  • →Develop and implement strategic approaches to donor engagement and fundraising informed by data and economic trends.
  • →Represent the Vice President for University Advancement, as delegated, on committees, partnerships, and initiatives involving significant operational or strategic matters.
  • →Take a hands-on approach to building, revising, and implementing operational infrastructure that serves the various units within UA in an effective and efficient manner.

Required Reporting

  • →Oversee all mandated philanthropic reporting for the division and university, including CASE Insights on Voluntary Support of Education, the CASE Alumni Engagement Report, CSU philanthropic reporting, and other required reports.
  • →Lead a cross-divisional working team as needed, involving Gift Processing, Data Administration, and Alumni & External Affairs to compile, validate, and report required metrics.
  • →Develop additional mandated reporting infrastructure to improve efficiency and automation, in partnership with Advancement Services and the Division of Information Technology.

University Partnerships

  • →In coordination, under the leadership of the Associate Vice President, University Advancement & COO, CPP Philanthropic Foundation, collaborate with IT on key data analytics infrastructure such as Raiser’s Edge, Tableau, Lightcast, PeopleSoft, artificial intelligence tools, and other relevant systems. 
  • →Interface with other key data units at CPP, such as IRPA (Institutional Research, Planning and Assessment), Academic Resources, ADE (Assessment, Data, & Evaluation), and others.
  • →Ensure UA’s needs are well represented for university-wide data policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • →Procure data from university partners that allow UA to further its goals and priorities.
  • →Represent UA as needed on cross-divisional committees, partnerships, and initiatives, where UA’s strategic and operational priorities are impacted.

Nice to Have

This position is part of the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) unit M80. The CSU Classification Standards for this position are located on the CSU Classification Standards website. The CSU Salary Schedule is located on the CSU Salary Schedule website. The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum $5,053 and maximum $16,221 per month. Please refer to the anticipated hiring range for the appropriate salary rate for this particular position.
