Under the general supervision of the Theatre Department Chair, the Lead Production Coordinator coordinates theatre productions, production schedules, departmental spaces, and special events while supporting budgets, facilities, safety, and communication across production teams. Partner with faculty, staff, students, and guest artists to deliver high-quality theatrical experiences from planning through performance.

  • Coordinates production teams and guest artists to ensure timely execution, construction, and installation of theatrical production elements in multiple production areas (lighting, sound, video, costuming, hair/make-up, properties, and scenery) based on design specifications approved by the Chair.
  • Develops, maintains, and disseminates the departmental production calendar under the Chair’s direction; monitors and communicates deadlines to production personnel.
  • Schedules spaces for departmental productions, workshops, and special events; coordinates facility use for outside events as approved.
  • Supports professional and safe operations per Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Cal/OSHA, and CSUN Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards.
  • Facilitates communication and coordination with internal and external stakeholders across the Theatre Department; College of Arts, Media, and Communication (CAMC); and the university.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a job-related field. A bachelor’s degree in Theatre or Drama is preferred.
  • Equivalent to three (3) years of full-time, progressively responsible technical, analytical, or administrative experience.
  • Additional experience in a job-related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required education, on a year-for-year basis.
  • Master of Fine Arts degree in Production Management, Theatre Management or Stage Management and two years of professional experience in production management and/or stage management in a League of Resident Theatres (LORT) company, major opera company or equivalent, including one year of supervisory or lead responsibility is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theatrical production processes, including lighting, sound, video, scenery, costumes, properties, and stage operations. Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple productions, rehearsals, schedules, facility usage, and competing priorities while maintaining accuracy, meeting deadlines, and supporting successful production outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, guest artists, designers, and production personnel. Ability to communicate production schedules, rehearsal updates, operational procedures, and safety expectations clearly and professionally while fostering a respectful, inclusive, and team-oriented production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex production schedules, maintain detailed production calendars, monitor milestones, and communicate deadlines effectively. Skilled in organizing production meetings, supporting artistic planning, coordinating guest artist engagement, and balancing multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of theatre facility operations, safety practices, and specialized production equipment. Ability to apply departmental policies and established safety standards, identify facility maintenance and repair needs, coordinate access to production spaces, and support compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and CSUN EHS requirements while promoting a safe learning and performance environment.

The anticipated HIRING RANGE is $5274 – $6689 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $5274 - $7684 per month.
HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday 1:00 pm – 10:00 pm. May include evenings and weekends.
This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge. This is not a telecommute position.
