The Department of Kinesiology at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for the Fall 2026 semester to teach courses in nutrition including KINE 336: Nutrition for Health and Exercise Performance and KINE 416: Global Nutrition and Health Practices.

These courses are taught as part of the kinesiology major and the minor in nutrition. The interdisciplinary minor in Nutrition provides students with an understanding of the role that food and nutrition play in health, nutrition policy, disease prevention, and the science of nutrition. Coursework includes topics in nutrition and wellness, metabolism, life-cycle nutrition, sports nutrition, cultural aspects of food, and current nutrition topics. 

KINE 336: Applies fundamental biological and nutritional concepts to enhance wellness and athletic performance via nutritional intervention. Students will review current literature and examine products designed to increase performance. Activity and dietary recalls will serve as the basis for individualizing nutritional programs. Prerequisites: BIOL 104, BIOL 177, BIOL 178, KINE 202.

KINE 416: Explores the global relationship between food, health, history, culture, and traditions through topics including nutritional and health requirements, social and religious influences of health beliefs, socioeconomic status, and food choices. Discusses the regional, cultural, and traditional foods and health beliefs of geographic areas and cultures, geographic factors in food availability, global food and health issues, health habits, and nutritional issues of diverse groups. Examines how structural racial and ethnic inequities affect health, disparities, and discusses solutions to address social justice.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field
  • Knowledge of CSUSM resources and the ability to connect students with those resources
  • Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.
  • A doctorate or terminal degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field.
  • Higher education experience teaching in the area
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full-time month

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
