Research Services Professional (Pre/Post Award) (Open Rank: Entry – Senior)

Job Summary:

The Department of Neurology has an opening for a Clinical Research Budget and Finance Specialist. This position is responsible for helping to manage the department financial database - NeuroCraft, and the day-to-day management of the system as it relates to clinical research budget development and contract invoicing.  This position is responsible for budget development/negotiation and the reconciliation of those budgets post-award.

The position is located at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the Research Services Finance Program Manager throughout each clinical research study on full-cycle budget development, negotiation, execution, and evaluation of industry-sponsored budgets.

• Assist with determining protocol complexity, pricing structure, and labor/effort required in a budget.

• Collaborate with the Finance Program Manager to create internal budgets for the department financial database, NeuroCRAFT

• Consult with sub-specialty Program Managers and Finance Program Manager on project budgets throughout various stages of design, development, implementation, and execution of research studies and to determine priority.

• Negotiate and finalize budgets with industry sponsors. Including reviewing medicare coverage analysis and UCH pricing for external costs.

• Review industry sponsored contracts and amendments to ensure final negotiated terms have been incorporated, and collaborate with the Clinical Research Administration Office to finalize and obtain executed agreements.

• Review post award reconciliation and that the budget does not need to be amended based on costs (budget versus actual).

• In collaboration with sub-specialty Program Managers and Finance Program Manager, create internal budgets for NeuroCRAFT and data enter contract terms into the system for tracking and reconciliation.

• Review M-FIN, contract, and NeuroCRAFT for post-award financial reconciliation.

• Create invoices for the sponsor or Contract Research Organization (CRO) based upon the contract terms.  Follow up to ensure all payments are accurate and accounted for.

• Other duties as assigned.

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Entry Level:

• A bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, business, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution or year for year substitution

Intermediate Level:

• A bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, business, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution or year for year substitution

• One (1) year of clinical research experience OR budget, finance, or accounting

Senior Level:

• A bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, business, social/behavioral sciences, physical sciences, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution or year for year substitution

• Two (2) years of clinical research experience OR budget, finance, or accounting

A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis. An advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using Excel

• Finance and/or accounting experience

• Budget development experience

• Experience with negotiations

• Experience working with clinical trials management system OnCore

• Experience with hospital systems, such as Epic or billing systems

• Experience with clinical research protocols and contracts

• Thorough understanding of CU fiscal policy and the regulations set forth by sponsoring agencies and will have the authority to change and/or develop departmental policies to ensure the department(s) is within compliance. 

• Independent judgment as well as self-directed work capabilities.

• Ability to communicate across departmental and central administration lines. 

• Professional business conduct and an ability to maintain effective lines of communication are required. 

• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple competing deadlines is a must.

• Thorough understanding of how clinical trials are conducted at the University of Colorado as well as reading and understanding clinical trial protocols.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

• Entry:  $50,160 - $63,804

• Intermediate:  $54,586 - $69,433

• Senior: $59,012 - $75,063

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
