About the Role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a casual Information and Retail Assistant to work as part of the Greater Sydney team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage. 

We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Information and Retail Assistant to deliver high-quality visitor services within the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

This is a frontline role where you will be the first point of contact for visitors and as an Information and Retail Assistant, you will provide professional and focused customer services through the provision of visitor information, site reception services, collection of fees, maintain cleanliness of the centre and demonstrate effective retail/merchandise sales and generate related reports. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly, professional customer service to visitors in person, over the phone and online
  • Deliver accurate information about park locations, activities and services
  • Effectively merchandise retail products, process sales transactions, manage inventory and prepare related reports, while maintaining accurate cash handling and reconciliation practices
  • Support administration activities, including data entry, reporting and record keeping
  • Assist with maintaining a well-presented visitor centre and retail space
  • Contribute to a positive visitor experience by promoting services, events and products

We are looking for a friendly and reliable team player who thrives in a fast-paced, visitor-facing environment and enjoys working collaboratively as part of a dynamic team. You are detail-oriented, customer-focused and possess sound technical skills, with experience using point-of-sale systems for retail transactions and completing accurate reporting and reconciliation tasks. You will have strong communication skills, the ability to engage with a diverse range of people and take pride in delivering excellent customer service. You are committed to workplace safety and comfortable balancing customer service, administration and retail responsibilities. A positive attitude, teamwork and a genuine interest in creating great visitor experiences will set you apart.

 

You will bring:

  • Experience in a customer service, retail or visitor services environment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with a wide range of customers
  • Confidence using digital systems and Point of Sale platforms
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage cash and administrative tasks accurately
  • A proactive, team-oriented approach with a focus on delivering great visitor experiences

Requirements

  • Experience in a retail environment including dealing with customer enquiries in a reception or frontline service area, cash handling procedures and using digital Point of Sale software. 
  • A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) is an essential requirement for this role. The role has been identified as requiring this check in line with the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012. 
  • Availability to work weekdays, weekends, school and public holidays based on roster requirements, with a minimum provision of 5 days availability per month.
  • A current Australian driver’s licence and first aid certificate or willingness to obtain one.
