Manager, Finance Technical Accounting

• Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $154,231 to $178,369 + superannuation + leave loading

The Financial Control and Reporting team within the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) delivers enterprise-wide financial governance, assurance and policy frameworks across the portfolio.

We partner with senior leaders, NSW Treasury, the Audit Office and key stakeholders across the department to navigate complex accounting and reporting matters, improve financial governance, and respond to emerging challenges including climate-related financial reporting and evolving regulatory requirements.

We are looking for an experienced technical accounting leader who enjoys working at the intersection of accounting standards, policy, governance and strategic decision-making. In this role, you will provide trusted expert advice on complex accounting issues, influence financial decision-making, shape enterprise-wide accounting policies and governance frameworks, and support the department's response to emerging and evolving accounting matters.

You will work closely with senior stakeholders, tackle complex transactions, drive improvements to accounting policies and governance practices, and ensure the organisation remains responsive to evolving accounting and regulatory requirements. You will also play a key role in building capability across the broader finance community, sharing your expertise and helping others navigate technical accounting challenges with confidence.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Deep technical accounting expertise and a passion for applying accounting standards to real-world business challenges.
• Experience providing trusted advice on complex accounting matters, with the ability to balance technical accuracy with practical outcomes.
• Strong knowledge of financial governance, accounting policy and reporting requirements within a large or complex environment.
• The ability to build credibility and influence stakeholders at all levels through clear, practical and risk-informed sound advice.
• A continuous improvement mindset, with experience enhancing policies, frameworks, controls or governance practices.
• Strong analytical skills and sound judgement when navigating complex or ambiguous issues.
• A collaborative approach and a genuine interest in developing the capability of others through coaching, mentoring and knowledge sharing.

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in accountancy, commerce, finance or relevant discipline, or relevant work experience.
• Recognised professional accounting body (CPA or CA) full membership.
