This rewarding leadership position offers the chance to work across the iconic alpine destinations of Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes, Blue Cow, Guthega and Sawpit Creek. As a Senior Field Officer, you'll lead a dedicated team of field staff and contractors delivering essential services and environmental programs in one of the most unique and geographically diverse regions in the state.

During the summer months, you'll oversee a range of important projects including infrastructure maintenance, pest and weed management, and environmental rehabilitation and revegetation works. As winter arrives and the region comes alive with visitors, you'll take the lead in ensuring critical municipal services operate safely, efficiently and seamlessly in a challenging alpine environment.  From coordinating waste operations and snow clearing programs to maintaining roads and oversnow routes, managing pest control activities, engaging with stakeholders and responding to operational issues, you'll play a key role in keeping the Perisher area running while contributing to the long-term conservation of this remarkable landscape.

This is an active, field-based role ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, leading from the front, working closely with their team, and seeing the direct results of their efforts in the environment around them.  If you're passionate about leading teams, tackling diverse challenges, and helping protect some of NSW's most treasured natural and cultural landscapes, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.

Your strong communication skills will assist you create a positive, safe, diverse, and inclusive culture.  Your life skills and practical knowledge along with the ability to plan works, operate independently and maintain relationships with field staff, contractors and the broader Area team will aid your success in this role. You'll be a practical decision-maker with the ability to think and solve problems on your feet.

• Ability to work with the Department’s statutory obligations as they apply to conservation of natural, Aboriginal and cultural heritage and resources, and willingness to exercise delegated authority for law enforcement.
• Demonstrated experience in the maintenance/construction of general facilities and grounds. Ability to supervise and carry out all duties safely in accordance with WH&S requirements.
• Ability to implement planned field and operational activities (including pest animal and plant control); and demonstrated skills and experience in fire management.
• Demonstrated administrative and organisational skills and capacity for working with various software programs, including ability to use the Agency’s financial and asset management systems.
• Relevant WorkCover Certification, ability and experience for the appropriate operation and maintenance of machinery, plant and equipment for maintenance and construction work.
• Current Australian Class C Drivers licence or equivalent, MR Drivers Licence and ability to drive 4wd vehicles, Senior First Aid Certificate, and demonstrated ability and experience in operating MR vehicles, and willingness to fly in light aircraft.
• Certification and demonstrated ability and experience in operating chainsaw to at least cross-cut level, and ability to operate and supervise in radio usage.

This is a physically active role suited to candidates of all genders who are fit, enjoy working outdoors as part of a team, and are eager to learn and develop the skills and qualifications needed to contribute toward improving and maintaining some of NSW’s most precious natural places. Applicants must meet the requirements of a specific medical assessment) which is inclusive of a clearance to undertake the fitness test for firefighting fitness roles (i.e. moderate level Task-Based Assessment for Firefighters) within the 12-month probationary period, if relevant.

The role holder must obtain certification at the appropriate level prior to undertaking firefighting/incident control duties.
