Position Summary: To mobilize, develop, train and support farmers and to manage nursery programs, supervise buying activities and develop community relations in order to maximize profitability of operations both for the farmers and for the company. Responsibilities: To meet with farmers on a regular basis in order to sensitize them of the benefits of growing whilst, at the same time, training farmers in good agricultural, harvesting and post harvesting practice. Manage the seed distribution and nursery programs, to ensure that adequate quantities of seedlings are cost effectively produced and supplied to farmers to meet farmer demand for seedlings. To supervise Field Assistants and review and determine the best activities and plans for them as well as training and performance review as appropriate. To supervise the activities of buying agents to ensure that buying agents comply with flower purchasing procedures and that quality is maximized by the strict adherence to quality standards when buying flowers. To meet with local government and village officials to promote farming and to ensure government support for farmers. To prepare weekly and monthly written field operation plans. To prepare weekly summary report for management. To prepare monthly reports in respect of farming activities. To continuously improve crop husbandry techniques in order to maximize yield and quality. To arrange and coordinate transport for collection as required. prepare activity budgets, as necessary for management approval. Requirements Knowledge and Experience An undergraduate degree in agriculture/agronomy. Experience in supporting smallholder farmers and promoting good agricultural practices. Good communication, (written & verbal) and networking skills. Horticultural experience would be an added advantage. Swahili and English –Fluent - written/spoken.
