Responsible for the overall supervision, planning, direction and execution of work for non-exempt and/or exempt employees in a medium or large sized operational unit. The functional activities are complex and have a moderate impact on overall operations. This level supervises employees in complex clerical/administrative/trade, or complex technical functions that provide services to persons inside or outside the organization. Work performed is non-routine and complex semi-skilled, skilled, or technical in nature.

Requirements

1 City policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct and safety of persons using municipal recreation facilities, programs and equipment.

2 Knowledge of human relations and supervision necessary to function as a first or second level supervisor. Supervising, coordinating, and monitoring the work of subordinate staff providing assistance to the recreation programs and facilities.

3 Effective verbal and written communication.

4 Safety rules and precautions/occupational hazards, knowledge of first aid principles and practices.

5 Ability to maintain accurate financial and personnel records.

6 Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all levels of management, city officials, vendors, other government agencies, other employees and the general public.

7 Principles, practices, philosophy and objectives of public recreation programs and services, effective program planning, development, administration and evaluation.

8 Effective and appropriate public contact and telephone techniques.

9 Principles and practices of marketing, advertising, promotions and customer service.

10 Modern office practices and procedures.

11 Personal computer operation and software applications.

12 Ability to interpret and explain department and program policies, rules and procedures.

Salary Range

$58,801.60 - $70,574.40

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.

High School Diploma, GED
A bachelor’s or 4-year degree is preferred.

Five (5) years' experience in recreation program development, implementation, and facilitation, and one (1) year of supervisory/lead work experience.
Preferred: experience in outdoor education and national certifications in kayaking/paddle sports, mountain biking, Wilderness First Aid, archery, Leave No Trace, and survival skills.

Valid Driver's License
Preferred: Certified Park and Recreation Professional
