Primary Duties:

• Plans, implements, and manages all aspects of statewide surveillance and epidemiology program for HIV/AIDS Surveillance:

  • ensures quality and security of data

  • evaluates and improves surveillance systems and epidemiologic methods (e.g., develops and implements follow-up protocols, plans software updates)

  • ensures program activity complies with Ohio laws, federal standards and grant requirements

• Co-develops HIV/STI/Hepatitis B and C Surveillance Section policies and procedures to maximize value of surveillance and epidemiologic data

• Supervises program staff

Additional Duties:

• Directs gathering, analysis, and dissemination of data to develop conclusions and theories on disease incidence, prevalence, spread, and etiology

• Serves as lead on HIV surveillance under Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Integrated HIV Surveillance and Prevention Cooperative Agreements

• Writes, edits and/or presents reports of research/investigations along with other materials for publication

• Liaises with Bureau staff and city, county, state, and federal officials

• Represents department/agency on relevant committees and/or workgroups

• Provides consultation and training on HIV surveillance and epidemiologic methods

• Answers questions from public; acts as contact person for news media when directed

Unusual Working Conditions:
May require travel; may be away from home and normal work site up to 30 days during emergencies; may be exposed to contagious and communicable diseases and toxic or hazardous chemicals.

• Completion of graduate core program in public health or preventive medicine AND 

  12 mos. exp. in epidemiology investigation with local or federal health agency which included 6 mos. exp. performing duties comparable with duties of Epidemiology Investigator 3, 65763.

OR

• 6 mos. exp. as Epidemiology Investigator 3, 65763.

OR 

• alternative, equivalent evidence of the Minimum Class Qualifications noted above

Educational Transcripts Requirements: 
Official educational transcripts are required for all post-high school educational accomplishments, coursework or degrees claimed on the application. Applicants will be required to submit an official transcript prior to receiving a formal offer of employment. Failure to provide transcripts within five (5) working days of being requested will cause the applicant to be eliminated from further consideration. 

Please note that a transcript is considered "official" only if it is an original copy from the educational institution and includes an institutional watermark, ink stamp or embossed stamp. Transcripts printed from the institution's website will not be accepted. ODH reserves the right to assess the academic credibility of an educational entity's award of a putative degree.
