DayOne builds and operates hyperscale data centers across eight markets: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, Finland and Spain. We raised US$4.5 billion in Series C funding to keep building.

As the platform grows, sites cannot each run to a standard of their own. Global Engineering Reliability Authority (GERA) is the technical governance layer that sits above our site operations teams and above our Mission Critical Response (MCR) teams, the specialists who respond when a site hits a critical event. It runs as three parallel disciplines: Electrical, Mechanical, and Reliability.

GERA does not run sites day to day. It sets the standards sites run to, at regional and global level, and it is who a site calls when a problem outruns standard procedure. We are building it out across Southeast Asia now, and you would be one of the first into this discipline.

This is a technical authority role rather than a line management one. You will not have direct reports when you start, and that is deliberate. Your influence comes from the standards you write and the judgement you bring when a site escalates.

• Set the engineering standards every Southeast Asia site runs to, including switching standards, arc flash standards and maintenance playbooks at regional and global level.

• Take the escalation on complex electrical events: protection trips, faults, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and generator abnormalities, switching events, power quality and degraded operating modes.

• Lead root cause analysis on significant incidents, and drive the corrective actions across every site, not only the one that had the incident.

• Own the operation, maintenance and lifecycle of utility intake, high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage (HV/MV/LV) distribution, transformers, switchgear and protection systems.

• Cover the standby and critical power chain: generators, UPS, batteries, static transfer switches (STS), power distribution units and remote power panels (PDU/RPP), busway, earthing and electrical monitoring.

• Raise availability and cut lifecycle cost through preventive, predictive and condition based maintenance, and improve power quality, load utilization, redundancy and power usage effectiveness (PUE).

• Take new capacity from commissioning, energization and integrated systems testing through operational readiness into live operation.

• Hold original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), service providers, consultants and contractors to maintenance quality and safe execution. Our OEMs include Siemens, Schneider, ABB, Eaton and Cummins.

• Build regional depth in switching discipline, UPS and generator systems, protection coordination and incident response.

• Hold the line on permit to work, lockout tagout, arc flash controls and electrical safety procedures.

• Keep electrical work compliant with local regulation in every market and with DayOne operational risk requirements.

• Make switching discipline the default in how site teams work.

Technical skills

• A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, power engineering or a related discipline.

• 6+ years in electrical engineering, facilities operations or critical infrastructure, with substantial time in data centers or other mission critical environments.

• Track record as the technical subject matter expert (SME) for the full electrical chain: utility and grid interface, substations, MV distribution, transformers, protection, standby generation, LV distribution and critical loads.

• Depth in protection: numerical relays and intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), coordination and selectivity, relay settings, fault analysis, interlocking and control schemes.

• Working experience of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61850, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and electrical power monitoring system (EPMS) integration, and arc flash assessment.

• Hands on switching operations, commissioning, energization and operational readiness in live critical facilities.

• IEC, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70 and 70E standards, plus local electrical regulation across Southeast Asia.

Soft skills

• Internal & External Stakeholder Management; Communicates effectively with stakeholders at all levels, translating technical or operational issues into language relevant to each audience. Builds credibility by constructively challenging internal teams and external vendors when recommendations are not supported by data, while ensuring sustainable solutions through clear written standards, knowledge transfer, and capability building rather than simply resolving immediate problems.

Language

• English and Mandarin. Much of our equipment, documentation and contractor base is Chinese, and vendor issues close fastest with an engineer who keeps technical precision in both languages.

• Semiconductor fabs, hyperscale facilities, oil and gas, utilities or power generation.

• Design experience alongside site operations experience.

• Multi-site or regional program experience.

• Previous team leadership or professional certification.

Most regional engineering roles inherit a standards manual and enforce it. This one writes it, at regional and global level.

You would work across countries and campuses alongside site operations and Mission Critical Response teams, with visibility across the estate rather than responsibility for one building. It is a technical expertise role, built so you keep contributing technically instead of moving away from the work.

GERA is new, and we would rather say so. You would join during a transformation and scaling phase, as the function is built out across new markets.
