About the Role
~1 min readAs our Senior Human Resources Generalist, you’ll play a key part in launching our Columbia office. You’ll lead the full employee lifecycle, from recruiting and onboarding through engagement, employee relations, compliance, and offboarding. You’ll also oversee day-to-day office operations to keep the workplace safe, organized, and welcoming. You’ll report to the Director of Human Resources, act as a trusted advisor to managers and employees, and mentor HR coordinator-level staff.
Responsibilities
~2 min readRecruiting & Onboarding
- →Support full-cycle recruiting for assigned roles: hiring manager intake, sourcing, screening, interview coordination, and offers
- →Build our onboarding process from scratch, including pre-start check-ins, paperwork, and new hire systems setup
- →Be the main point of contact for new hires from offer acceptance through their first weeks
- →Oversee I-9 verification, background checks, drug screening, and fingerprinting to ensure timely, compliant completion
- →Maintain and optimize our ATS/HRIS
Engagement & Retention
- →Design, run, and analyze new hire and exit surveys, and present trends and recommendations to HR leadership
- →Identify retention risks and recommend proactive solutions
- →Support recognition programs, engagement initiatives, and culture-focused communications
HR Strategy, Compliance & Employee Relations
- →Advise managers and employees on HR policies and workplace concerns
- →Lead or support investigations, conflict resolution, and performance improvement plans
- →Ensure compliance with employment laws (FMLA, ADA, EEO, FLSA, workers’ compensation) and keep audit-ready personnel records
- →Maintain the employee handbook, policies, and SOPs
- →Support performance management cycles and benefits administration, including open enrollment
- →Track HR metrics such as turnover, time-to-fill, and engagement
- →Mentor HR Coordinators and junior team members
Process Documentation & HR Projects
- →Create process flow charts, SOPs, and job aids for core HR workflows
- →Lead or contribute to projects like handbook updates, HRIS improvements, and policy rollouts
Office Management & Facilities
- →Serve as the main contact for daily office operations
- →Manage relationships with landlords, building management, and vendors (janitorial, maintenance, security, HVAC)
- →Order and manage supplies, equipment, and vendor accounts
- →Plan workstation setup and seating for new hires with IT
- →Oversee safety and emergency preparedness, including fire drills and first aid supplies
- →Handle mail, deliveries, badge/key access, and occasional front-desk coverage
- →Plan company events and employee appreciation activities
- →Track the facilities budget and review invoices
Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience
- 5+ years of progressive HR generalist experience, including full-cycle recruiting, employee relations, and compliance
- Working knowledge of federal and state employment law (FMLA, ADA, EEO, FLSA, workers’ compensation)
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with HRIS/ATS platforms and experience writing clear process documentation
- Sound judgment and attention to detail with confidential information (I-9s, background checks, employee relations matters)
- A warm, approachable, professional style and real enthusiasm for the candidate and employee experience
Preferred:
- Experience mentoring or leading junior HR staff
- Paylocity experience
- Experience with office operations, facilities, or vendor management
