We’re looking for an accomplished Associate Director, Cyber Exposure & Threat Intelligence to provide specialist leadership across cyber exposure management, threat intelligence and security awareness. This is an opportunity for a cyber security leader who enjoys operating at the intersection of strategy, intelligence, technology and risk — turning complex security challenges into practical action and helping shape how a large, complex organisation understands and responds to cyber risk.

This is not simply a technical role. You’ll be a trusted adviser who can take complex information, identify what matters and turn it into clear direction and coordinated action.

What you’ll do:

• Lead cyber exposure and threat intelligence, shaping frameworks and capabilities that strengthen Deakin’s cyber resilience.
• Turn intelligence into action, identifying emerging threats and vulnerabilities and driving practical, risk-based responses.
• Advise and influence senior leaders, providing expert guidance on complex, sensitive and evolving cyber security challenges.
• Shape strategy and drive continuous improvement, strengthening security practices, systems, methodologies and capability.
• Lead through expertise and collaboration, developing people and partnering across the University to deliver strategic cyber initiatives and coordinated outcomes.
• Vulnerability Management - own and operationally manage the end-to-end vulnerability management lifecycle, including scanning, risk-based prioritisation, remediation tracking, and SLA compliance across the University.
• Threat Intelligence - lead the threat intelligence function, producing actionable intelligence and briefings for University leadership and peer security teams, and maintaining relationships with sector threat-sharing bodies.
• Cyber Training & Awareness - continuously improve institution-wide cyber training and awareness programs.
• Cyber Attack Surface Management - identify and monitor the University's external and internal attack surface, working with relevant teams to reduce exposure and close gaps.

You’re an experienced cyber security professional who can combine technical credibility with strategic thinking and influence. You will have deep expertise across areas such as vulnerability and exposure management, threat intelligence, threat modelling and cyber security frameworks, while working closely with senior stakeholders and cyber security professionals across the University.

You’ll bring:

• Deep cyber security expertise, with relevant postgraduate qualifications or equivalent experience, and a track record leading specialist functions within complex organisations.
• Strong technical capability across cyber exposure and vulnerability management, MITRE ATT&CK, threat modelling, threat intelligence, incident response and emerging attack vectors.
• Sound knowledge of security frameworks and best practice, including ISO 27001/27002, NIST and CIS, with experience strengthening security frameworks, methodologies and practices.
• Strategic influence and judgement, with the ability to advise senior stakeholders, navigate ambiguity and translate complex technical issues into clear, practical recommendations.
• Leadership and collaboration skills, with experience developing people, building capability and working across organisational boundaries to deliver meaningful cyber security outcomes.
