The Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) will lead the enterprise-wide financial planning, forecasting, and strategic analysis functions for our insurance operations. This high-impact executive role bridges forward-looking financial strategy with core insurance accounting and operations. You will act as the principal financial advisor to business unit leaders and the C-suite, transforming complex operational data into actionable strategies that optimize capital, improve combined ratios, and drive profitable growth.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Orchestrate the annual corporate budgeting process, quarterly rolling financial forecasts, and multi-year strategic plans.
- Develop driver-based forecasting models that integrate key insurance metrics, including gross written premiums, member and group retention rates, and dental loss ratios.
- Design sophisticated scenario analysis and stress-testing models to evaluate underwriting performance and market shifts.
- Deliver monthly and quarterly variance analyses to explain operational deviations from budgetary targets included detailed analysis around operating expenses.
- Partner with Corporate Accounting to translate GAAP and Statutory financial results into forward-looking management reporting.
- Collaborate with actuarial and claims teams to incorporate IBNR updates and reserving trends into financial projections.
- Evaluate the financial impact of reinsurance structures, capital allocation strategies, and investment portfolio performance.
- Establish and track enterprise-level financial KPIs to evaluate product-line, geographic, and broker channel profitability.
- Present strategic financial plans, monthly performance summaries, and competitive intelligence to executive leadership.
- Provide financial due diligence and modeling support for new product launches, market expansions, or corporate transactions.
- Drive the optimization of FP&A systems, automating data ingestion from policy administration systems and general ledgers.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team of finance professionals, establishing a culture of technical excellence and business partnership.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a highly quantitative field.
- MBA or Master’s degree in Finance or Business Administration is highly desirable.
- CPA, CFA, or professional insurance designations (e.g., CPCU) are considered strong assets.
- 10+ years of progressive corporate finance, FP&A, or accounting experience.
- 5+ years of direct experience within the insurance sector (e.g., P&C, Life, Health, or Reinsurance).
- Proven track record leading the corporate FP&A function, including complex budgeting and driver-based forecasting.
- Strong understanding of insurance-specific accounting fundamentals, regulatory frameworks, and financial statements.
- Expertise in building advanced financial models and capital allocation frameworks using Excel.
The target hiring range for this role is $186,575 - $219,500 (Annually). The starting base salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and other job-related factors.
