As a Manager, Utility Contracts, you will play a critical role in supporting the growth of large-scale data center infrastructure by leading utility-related contract negotiations and managing key agreements through execution. Working closely with development, acquisitions, legal, energy, and operational teams, you will help drive utility strategies that support project timelines, reduce risk, accelerate speed to market, and ensure successful coordination with utility providers and other external stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the negotiation and execution of utility-facing agreements, including utility service agreements, interconnection agreements, amendments, and other related commercial contracts.

  • Coordinate utility-related activities and stakeholder input across acquisition, development, energy, and infrastructure teams to support investment and site selection decisions.

  • Organize and facilitate discussions with internal and external stakeholders to identify critical risks, dependencies, opportunities, and key decision points.

  • Manage contract timelines, deliverables, approvals, and execution milestones to support project schedules and path-to-power requirements.

  • Communicate key commercial, operational, legal, credit, and risk provisions to leadership and project stakeholders.

  • Track open issues, contractual obligations, dependencies, and action items while escalating risks and driving timely resolution.

  • Maintain accurate records of utility agreements, amendments, compliance requirements, milestones, and ongoing contractual commitments.

  • Support utility and energy infrastructure projects by monitoring changes in interconnection processes, utility requirements, and regulatory developments.

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with utility providers, consultants, and other external partners.

  • Drive continuous improvement of contract templates, negotiation strategies, approval workflows, reporting tools, and contract management processes.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Energy Management, or a related field.

  • 5-8 years of experience negotiating and managing contracts within the energy, utility infrastructure, power generation, or related sectors.

  • Direct experience with utility service agreements, interconnection agreements, power purchase agreements (PPAs), energy service agreements, or similar utility-related contracts.

  • Strong understanding of U.S. electricity markets, utility operations, ISO/RTO market structures, and NERC reliability standards.

  • Knowledge of large-load interconnection processes and the regulatory environment affecting utility and energy infrastructure projects.

  • Ability to interpret and communicate commercial, operational, legal, credit, and risk provisions within complex agreements.

  • Excellent project management, organizational, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence stakeholders and present information to leadership teams.

  • Experience supporting data center, hyperscale, digital infrastructure, or large energy-intensive projects preferred.

  • Knowledge of FERC regulations, state Public Utility Commission (PUC) processes, and an existing network of utility industry relationships preferred; advanced degree preferred.

Our Compensation Philosophy

Digital Realty offers its employees a highly competitive compensation package, excellent benefits, and an environment that recognizes and rewards your contributions. Central to our compensation philosophy is rewarding our employees for achieving the values and objectives aligned to the company's overall goals and values.

 

Our published pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and geographical location. Individual pay is based on additional factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training. Moreover, an employee’s total compensation package varies by role and may include salary, cash bonus or commissions, and equity awards not quantified below.

 

Compensation range: $132,000 - $165,000 annually. This compensation range represents the Company’s good faith belief as to what it will pay as a base salary for this position at the time of this posting.
