This position is seeking an experienced and adaptable engineer to join the Grid Strategy & Advancement Engineering Application team. The team owns the Technical Interconnection Requirements for Large Load (TIRLL), including ongoing implementation and updates, and is developing Duke Energy's Computational Load Commissioning Process in response to the direction from NERC. The role will support the safe and reliable integration of large and computational loads through technical evaluation, requirements development, commissioning readiness, and cross-functional execution.
The Engineer III position is the advanced level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer III position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited supervision. An Engineer III is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer III effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied.
The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Employees in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions and takes action to resolve.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Perform technical evaluations supporting the interconnection, commissioning, and performance of large and computational load facilities.
- →Support the implementation, interpretation, and continued development of the Technical Interconnection Requirements for Large Load (TIRLL).
- →Support development and implementation of Duke Energy’s Computational Load Commissioning Process.
- →Review customer facility designs, equipment information, study results, and commissioning documentation to identify and resolve technical gaps.
- →Translate complex technical issues into clear requirements and recommendations for internal teams, customers, developers, and other stakeholders.
- →Coordinate engineering activities and deliverables, prepare technical documentation, and support project schedules and business objectives.
Requirements

Candidates with a strong foundation in power systems and a combination of the following qualifications are encouraged to apply. Experience across every area is not required.
- Master’s degree in Engineering or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience in one or more relevant technical areas, such as power system modeling and studies, EMT analysis, protection and control, equipment performance, or power quality.
- Knowledge of large load integration, power-electronics-interfaced equipment, computational loads, or customer facility design.
- Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements, NERC reliability standards, FERC regulatory frameworks, or industry standards.
- Experience developing technical requirements or engineering processes, coordinating cross-functional work, and managing technical deliverables.
- Demonstrated ability to solve unfamiliar problems and communicate complex technical matters to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

- Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
- Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience.

- Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience (without a Professional Engineer certification) or 5 years of engineering experience (with a Professional Engineer certification).
- Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees must live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility, not greater than 50 miles one way. Employees are expected to report to their assigned Duke Energy facility as required and directed by their manager, on average 3 full workdays per regular workweek.
