Responsibilities
~1 min readIn this role, you will be responsible for ensuring our products perform reliably over their service life. You will work as a member of the concurrent engineering team to ensure reliability is designed into the product through appropriate selection of materials, assembly processes, and design features. You will apply Design for Excellence (DfX) principles, your experience, and analytical skills to identify critical to reliability design requirements, assess reliability performance, and verify reliable performance by developing and executing reliability test plans.
You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of our products by applying your knowledge of physics of failure and skills in physical failure analysis to determine root causes of observed failure modes, develop corrective actions, and verify their effectiveness.
- Experience with reliability engineering, physics of failure, and physical failure analysis of materials and components used in electronic equipment:
- Electrical Printed Circuit Board Assemblies, including digital, analog, mixed signal, and RF circuits
- Semiconductor components including bare-die flip-chip SMT or organic and ceramic packaged QFN and BGA components
- Mechanical components and assemblies
- Experience applying DFMEA methodology to identify and assess potential failure modes in designs
- Experience developing and interpreting the results of accelerated life testing methods including
- Thermal exposure/cycling
- Humidity exposure/cycling
- Shock and vibe
- Experience applying and interpreting the output of analytical tools and methods to predict mechanical failure modes such as yield, stress fracture, and fatigue fracture
- Data analysis skills using JMP, Minitab, Python, R, or similar tools
- Experience performing physical failure analysis of electrical and mechanical components and assemblies using destructive and/or non-destructive methods such as:
- Microscopy (Optical, X-ray, Scanning Acoustic or Scanning Electron)
- Cross-sectioning
- Dye and Pry
- Experience with standards-based environmental and reliability testing methods, such as MIL-STD 810
- Experience specifying or designing reliability test fixtures and tools
- Experience with reliability modeling tools such as Reliasoft, Weibull++, BlockSim, or similar
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and influencing design for reliability outcomes.
