Chemist II - Trace Metals

Element is seeking a Chemist II (Trace Metals) to join our Mississauga Health Sciences laboratory. The Chemist II evaluates the chemical and physical properties of organic and/or inorganic substances, applying established methods, procedures, and laboratory instrumentation to perform analytical testing. This role also conducts method validation and supports method development, interprets data to draw conclusions, participates in failure investigations and deviations, and contributes to the preparation of client reports and quotes.

• →Perform routine analysis on the full range of analytical samples in accordance with in-house methods, customer’s method or compendial method primarily using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS)/ Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES)/ Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and Ion Chromatography (IC).
• →Maintain all documentation, including laboratory notebooks, equipment logbooks, and instrument raw data, in compliance with GMP requirements and applicable SOPs, ensuring all entries meet ALCOA principles (Attributable, Legible, Contemporaneous, Original, and Accurate).
• →Assist senior chemists with method development, validation and analytical method transfer testing using ICP-OES/ ICP-MS/ and AAS.
• →Assist with analytical reports, method validation protocols and reports for validations and verifications performed.
• →Assist Manager/Senior Chemist with investigations on atypical / OOS result and deviations.
• →Perform and maintain Trace Metals instruments- performance verifications, troubleshoot when required.

• GMP lab experience

• Basic understanding of cost control measures and how 5S and SQDC principals impact lab flow
• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in analytical chemistry or life sciences (microbiology, etc.)
• Minimum 4-5 years relevant experience with BS Degree / 2-3 years with master’s degree or 1 year with a PhD
• Serves as an SME in at least one area of the Trace Metals team
• Advanced understanding of various compounds, reagents, and solutions
• Strong independence in laboratory operations, effectively troubleshooting technical issues and taking proactive measures to enhance workflows, optimize processes, and support continuous improvement within the GMP environment.

• Lifting up to 40 pounds on occasion
• Walking throughout the day
• Ability to climb to elevated locations within the site (Approximately 15 feet)
• Ability to read and write
