As a Block Advisors Accounting Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting small business clients by maintaining accurate financial records, processing payroll, and delivering bookkeeping services that help clients make informed financial decisions. In this client-focused role, you'll partner closely with Account Managers and Tax Advisors to provide exceptional service, ensure compliance, and contribute to business growth through referrals and long-term client relationships.

  • Process and record financial transactions using double-entry bookkeeping principles while maintaining accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements
  • Perform bookkeeping functions, including data entry, account maintenance, and transaction categorization
  • Complete bank reconciliations and account reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of client financial records
  • Process payroll and provide payroll-related support for small business clients
  • Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Generate monthly and quarterly financial reports to support client decision-making
  • Assist Tax Advisors with tax return data entry and uploading returns through the Block Advisors Fulfillment Network
  • Identify, research, and address accounting discrepancies or irregularities while providing outstanding customer service
  • Partner with Account Managers and Tax Advisors to support bookkeeping, payroll, and tax-related client needs.
  • Communicate with clients, vendors, suppliers, banking contacts, and internal business partners to facilitate service delivery
  • Support sales tax filing and other compliance-related bookkeeping activities
  • Build strong client relationships that increase retention and identify opportunities for referrals and additional services
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail in all client work.
  • Stay current on bookkeeping practices, payroll regulations, and Block Advisors tools and processes through ongoing learning and development
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver a seamless client experience and support business growth initiatives

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of prior double entry accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping practices, generally accepted accounting principles and procedures.
  • National Bookkeeper and Payroll certifications from the National Bookkeeping Association or ability to successfully obtain certifications
  • Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Open Office experience
  • Ability to multi-task in multiple window applications
  • Familiarity with bookkeeping software, spreadsheets, and database management. Ability to adapt to new tools and automation
  • Analytical and detail oriented
  • Good verbal and written skills
  • Client Services experience
  • Ability to complete assigned projects on time with minimal supervision
  • Ability to correctly interpret and apply complex instructions, policies and regulations

Associate's degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience.

The pay range for this position is listed below. Local minimum wage laws apply. This information is posted pursuant to local requirements to provide applicants with information about what they might be eligible to receive. Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed. Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan. Qualifying associates can enroll themselves and/or their eligible dependents in medical and prescription drug coverage; can participate in the H&R Block Retirement Savings Plan (401(k) Plan), the Employee Assistance Program, (virtual) fitness center programs, and the associate discount program; are automatically enrolled in Business Travel Accident Insurance; and receive Associate Tax Prep benefit.
$17.64 - $26.49/Hr.
