The Tax Accountant is responsible for supporting the delivery of tax compliance, planning, and consulting services to high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, and closely held business entities. This role provides tax analysis, identifies planning opportunities, assists with tax return review and oversight, and helps clients navigate complex tax matters.
In this role, the Tax Accountant collaborates closely with Wealth Advisors, Financial Planners, Tax Managers, and other members of the Tax Department to support proactive tax strategies, improve client outcomes, and deliver an exceptional client experience. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical tax knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service in a collaborative, client-focused environment.
Responsibilities
~2 min read· Review tax returns and supporting workpapers prepared by external tax providers, identifying planning opportunities, technical issues, and areas requiring follow-up.
· Coordinate with external tax preparation providers to facilitate timely and accurate completion of client tax returns and related tax deliverables.
· Participate in internal strategy discussions for clients and collaborate with advisor teams and planning departments to address tax planning objectives.
· Assist in the coordination and integration of tax services, analysis, and department projects.
· Prepare tax projections, tax analysis, and other tools used in wealth planning engagements.
· Research federal and state tax matters and communicate findings to advisors, planners, and clients.
· Respond to IRS and state tax notices and assist with drafting correspondence as needed.
· Support the development and enhancement of tax-related processes, procedures, and client service initiatives.
· Maintain knowledge of current tax laws, regulations, and planning strategies affecting clients.
· Perform additional duties and responsibilities of a similar nature as necessary to support the firm's business development and client retention objectives.
· Adhere to all company policies and procedures and perform business functions with a focus on consistency, quality, and compliance.
Qualifications
Working knowledge of individual, trust, estate, partnership, and corporate taxation, preferably gained through 3+ years of experience in public accounting, wealth management, family office, tax advisory services, or a related professional services environment.
· CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation preferred.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office and tax-related software applications.
· Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Experience and willingness to participate in client meetings, educational events, and prospective client discussions.
· Strong attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and a demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
· Self-motivated with sound professional judgment, integrity, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
